You just fixed a long standing problem of mine! I wrote a song with a line that goes “So what is there to keep me from floating up to where you are?” And on that ING at the end of floating, I was really straining and couldn’t seem to figure out why. Extending the I and attaching the NG more to the “up” solved it. Thank you!

Could you please address a common pronunciation problem with singers who say “whatchoo” instead of what you, “don’tchoo” instead of don’t you, etc.? It drives me up the wall that they can’t enunciate each word separately. Thanks!

Sorry for the late reply, just saw this: Actually, I'd say the practice of using 'whatchoo' instead of 'what you' is very dependent upon the genre, the song, and the singer. It's like dialect... what is right? Whatever gives THAT singer on THAT song the desired response to the song's message. When articulated too loudly, 'choo' can distract the ear or pop a mic, though, and that should always be avoided. But consider Carly Simon singing 'donchoo now' on You're So Vain'. If she sang 'don't you now' it would sound weird. But if you're singing musical theater or other more formal styles, 'donchoo' would sound weird. So in a nutshell, who are you talking to, how do you need to pronounce it to get the response you want. Hope this helps!
