The way you said “ah-scared” at 5:50 is so genuinely endearing. As a guitarist first and foremost, this analogy is super insightful. I have begun incorporating “S”s into my routines because of this fantastic insight. It allows you to vocally move within entire octaves with efficiency and precision . I find I have a lot of work to go with “H”s and generally *starting* notes with great clarity. So this “S” example is like a godsend because it helps me focus on the deeper problem of starting my notes strongly and on time, while also being fairly easy comparing to working out with those “H”s. That said, I will continue exercising with both of these sounds, on top of my regular routine. Merci beaucoup, Mr. B. Merci a million

I'm a relatively new older singer and tend to be ok on the higher end of my range but seem to be flat often in my middle range. I can't wait to try your suggestions at my next practice session where I have recording abilities. The odd thing is that I sometimes don't pick up my flatness until I hear the recording. I pick it up right away there. Thanks for this Mark. BTW, I keep using your EPIC warmup daily and love it. I'm going to try this the next time I do it.
@voicelessondotcom2 жыл бұрын
The flatness is common there because the resonance wants to migrate. Allow it to and the pitch you're asking for is the pitch you'll get!
@neilbonavita86232 жыл бұрын
@@voicelessondotcom I'm so psyched Mark. I went back and practiced this today then I went back and recorded my doing your EPIC workout. WOW!! what a difference in my pitch accuracy! Not perfect but I'm not going for perfect right now. I'm looking for "much better" and I got that. I'll keep getting better now that I have another tool. Thanks Mark.

This was game-changing information for me I never really thought of that simple analogy but some many problems seem to be fixable. I also try now not to think of reaching for the higher note but pick it up from above and it helps me generally not to go flat anymore, I had that idea about a week ago and it really helps. Thank you so much I have been working with you daily for about a year now and it's a part of my daily practice. Greetings Cedric

This is NEXT level stuff! Also, all those ties to the guitar were super awesome. Clear as day. Choking the instrument off. Excellent. I so greatly appreciate the true wisdom from the sage himself. The hand gestures were also incredibly helpful to synthesize the deep meaning here. Thanks so much Mark Baxter!!

I've been thinning out the voice but only when reaching very high notes, but not as going up in the scales wherever I am in the scale. Thanks! I've just realized that I scoop notes from under to reach those notes. Probably because I'm using too much muscle. Adding the "s" is the extra help to reach the note immediately instead of forcing the voice.

higher notes: when we are singing a note and it will only slide to either side - is that phlegm in a particular sinus?
@voicelessondotcom7 ай бұрын
Maybe - but the best way to address it is to change the volume for a moment. Sing softer or louder to unlock the behavior you're stuck in and then return to the original volume.

Adding a little stream of air only works with the fricatives (s, z, th, f etc) but not with the plosives (t, d, b,p, k etc) because the sound is only made by having an "explosion" of air. Nice comparison with the guitar.
@voicelessondotcom5 жыл бұрын
Yes, of course, my suggestion is to substitute an s fricative (not a pitched one like a z) to interrupt the vibration of the folds and stop the habit of sliding up to pitches dragging a heavy mass up with the move. It's just an exercise - not a strategy during a song.

Whenever I go for high notes my voice always cuts off and I’m trying to make it thinner but idk how. Any time a note gets too high for me, my voice just cuts off. Is that not in my range or do I just have bad coordination?
