Thanks for acknowledging that you're in the minority of people in their 20s living on their own! I watch so many KZbinrs my age give "big sister advice" on how much easier and more fun your 20s are and I feel like it contributes to why I still look at myself like I'm a child since I still live with my parents and have to live by their rules.

I feel like a big reason people miss being a teen or have so much nostalgia for it is because in a way people haven't healed from their trauma of those years and now that they are grown up and have actually freedom they want to relieve those years also i personally think entering your 20s esp once you hit 22 is an entire other other coming of age stage that occurs to us because i feel like at that age you start to feel like an "actual adult"

I am in my 30s and feel like this. I feel robbed of my teenage years due to trauma and now that I am starting to heal, I want to live certain things usually considered teenage things such as dressing fun, going out without responsibilities, eating snacks, girl's hangouts, etc.

Cannot stress enough how Marina & the Diamonds NAILED this particular feeling in "Teen Idle" over ten years ago with 'Electra Heart!' I've been revisiting that album this entire year (mainly because I've seen a lot of drag performers do numbers from that album, which is PERFECTION) and it's a no-skip masterpiece on being in your twenties and yearning for teenage nostalgia!

This voice memo episode came to me at a really good time. I've been feeling rather down lately because I still feel so far away from the adulthood scenario of having some form of financial stability, career progression, and independence, and what you said about things being different for different people really affirmed me. I also feel pretty robbed of my teen and young adulthood experiences due to mental health issues that persist even now and I feel envious of other people who don't have to go through the same thing, but you do give me hope that things will work out and become better eventually and I can accept that things are really just how they are. Thank you for sharing this, Jordan! 💕

I loved this shorter format ❤! I also want to say that I think this idea of a “25 year old teenage girl” comes from the idea of what a 25 year old is like we created when we were younger. It happens to me, you just imagine what you will feel like at a certain age and then it arrives and you are not as mature or wise as you expected. We idealise this time of our lives when we were younger and know we realised we are really just the same 😂. So, this image of adulthood we created has not yet arrived and we just feel like we are still tennagers.

cats absorb most of their water from their food, so they don't usually have the instinct to drink water! wet food should be plenty of water for boots :)

Also, if you still think your cat isn't getting enough water (when it's hot out), just add a splash of water to the wet food, my cat slurps it all up lol

I am very late to this ep. but I have never felt nostalgic of my teenage/childhood years BESIDES the media I was consuming. I did not have a good school experience, thinking about being a teenager in school is my worst nightmare but thinking about the things I loved at that time and how they made me feel is what I get nostalgic over. What goes with that, is I know now that in 10 years I will be nostalgic for the things I love right now which I find is a weird beautiful cycle

As someone who cannot commit to a podcast, your voicenotes and commentaries have been a constant in my watch list. Thank you for making this episode. It felt comforting and validating to know there are people like you who do not reminisce their teen years so much or visibly as others. Heaven knows how much therapy I need from all the mental and emotional trauma I grew up with in my teen years. Don't get me wrong, there are moments from my teen years that I miss, such as the holidays or the stability like you've mentioned. But for the most part, if ever someone came up to me and asked me what the first thing that comes to mind about my teenage years would be, I'd say having to just survive. So now that I'm in my early 20s, I can say I was robbed of my teen years too. I'm hoping that from this moment on, I'm able to focus on learning more about myself and heal in the manner and pace I'm able to 💗

I feel this so much, I’m so nostalgic for when I lived at home even tho it was so shitty with my mum. It was nice being an innocent kid who didn’t have to clean the entire house and cook dinner and do groceries and work for a living. Now I’m an adult I love my freedom and being in my early 20s, but what I would give to experience being a teen for just one more day so I could truly mourn it.

hey, classics student here - nostalgia comes from the ancient greek word νόστος (nostos) which means a journey home, or a homecoming and the word Aλγος (algos) which means pain.

Thank you Jordan for talking about this topic, as a 24-year-old girl I felt it soo much. I am lucky as I had a great time during my teen years- especially from 16 on. I feel that our 20s have the potential to be sexy and thriving- more money, more freedom, more matureness and better knowledge of ourselves. But with maturity come the pressure to build an independence, to build a carreer, to leave the house. And at least for me that gave me so much anxiety and depression, it's making my mid 20s fucking miserable. Maybe the day I feel I reached all of these goals I'm going to be able to enjoy this time of life fully. But until then, I think the part that we miss the most of our teens is the lack of expectations (apart from school grades and not being a criminal) and the feeling of secureness the structure we were in you were talking about gave us. I hope I'll be able to reach my goals and finally enjoy my 20s fully soon

as someone who didnt really have many friends in highschool and spent a lot of her time alone i totally relate the that jealous feeling of being with or around people who grew up with loads of friends and had amazing experiences in their teen years sometimes its really hard to hear and almost makes you resent that other person eventhough it is absolutely not their fault, it still hurts to hear about what you missed out on.

I remember listening to your podcast from last year or a few months ago where you mentioned how you morn your younger years. Everyone around me did the uni thing but I didn’t, you having such a similar path to me (apart from social media lol) meant a lot. I think it was you mentioning loneliness made me feel less alone. I’m 23 unemployed and living at home so 25 year old teenager feels like me because of the missed out experiences. I still feel 18. I had to take a break from work this time last year because my mental health got bad again and I was working in film and had just finished my 2nd full time production. But now 3/4 of the film industry is out of work because of the strikes. I have my last session with my therapist this week as well. I don’t normally comment but I love your videos Jordan, thank you ❤❤❤

for me 19 to 22 was the biggest change i’ve had. i wasn’t interested in boys or partying or anything like that until i was 16, and i dont really have nostalgia for that. i was very socially anxious, insecure and unhappy. i just wish i wouldve done some things differently. i wasted a lot of time on a boy who didnt care about me like i cared about him, my ”friends” weren’t great. but i think i actually had fun as a teenager from about 17-19 once i met some nice people and went to therapy for my anxiety but i was still with that terrible boy (not anymore thankfully). the person i am now at 22 is so drastically different than who i was at even 19 or 21. I honestly hope nobody thinks of the teenage-20yo. me when they think of me. Actually dont perceive me at all 😂 Change is a good thing!! i am doing much better now :)

I think another big part of the change in adulthood is that people tend to have children when they are older. As a teenager you have the structure of school and feel looked after by your parents and then as a parent your purpose is to love and protect your child. A lot of young adults now find themselves in this grey area of not quite knowing what their current purpose is and where they fit in the society that we have been preparing ourselves to venture out in for so long

Listened to this as I got ready today so you're right about the value of medium-form content, but I wanna say I hated being a teenager too. All of the trauma in my life stems from this time in my life, but I have SO much nostalgia for it because what people don't realize is being a twenty-something year old means you have to compete with the entire adult workforce. I can apply to all the grad schools I want, or any job, but a 40 year old candidate is immediately more desirable to these people than a child with no experience-because technically, that's what we are. Things that really cement life stages like marriage, kids, and even just buying a home are not within reach for us and it is quite literally redefining adulthood in real-time, which is why you're right about the cognitive dissonance between technically BEING an adult at this time and what our definition of adult actually is. I don't miss going through hell as a 16 year old girl, I miss that because I was a 16 year old girl my future wasn't up in the air. I wasn't constantly thinking about my life and how to get literally ANYWHERE from where I am now, I was thinking about what to say to the boy I thought I liked sitting right behind me and whether or not "it's October 3rd" could get me on the Mean Girls' fast track to getting the guy. It was literally so EASY. It was just so simple being a teenage girl. Not to diminish any of those things, it's just that I really didn't have to consider much else aside from grades and interpersonal relationships. Literally a dream now. "When I grow up" I want to be 16.

Leave a message after the tone can be a sign off for people to comment or like a segment where you read comments from previous videos' comment sections. Also this might get really tedious, but you could record yourself on your memos app every week or month when you think of a topic to talk about and the memos could introduce them. It'd be fun trying to decipher them too if you've forgotten what you meant by the time you returned to them. It's just an idea cause it might end up being a lot to do or you might forget to do it cause I know I would.

You can also boil chicken and then give that water to your cat. Cats often struggle to stay hydrated enough so it’s good to prompt them to drink more however you can.

my cat stopped drinking water when i switched her to wet food as well but my vet says it’s completely normal and actually more biologically appropriate for cats. cats are desert dwelling animals so they’re programmed to be getting a vast majority of their moisture from their food. they’re evolved to drink very little water and have a very low thirst drive. if you’re still worried, you can mix some water in w her wet food for extra hydration

i needed to hear this SO BAD. i'm finishing up my undergraduate and i have to start applying to masters and phd programs. i am double majoring because i had no idea what to do and school gives me purpose, but it's almost over and i STILL HAVE NO IDEA. my problem is that i like a lot of stuff but there's not one particular thing that i'm sure of. at this point i'm going to end up doing whatever comes my way and is the best opportunity. but that's probably why lately especially all i've been saying is that i'm just a teenage 22 year old LOL or that i'm just a girl
