Devon is so knowledgeable about armwrestling and knowing what to do at the table. I remember watching him explain how he rushed the catch against Taras ivakin and essentially gave Taras all position and tried to catch him the last inch from the pad he had been able to do prior. You must fight them all the way until that catch even though you know they are going to beat you all the way to it. I felt this exact thing in my first tournament. I tried to conventionally toproll, got flashed. Then I tried to dive into a defensive hook, got flashed. I then posted as hard as possible and fought from center. Lost my cup, that's okay, lost center table, that's fine, lost pronation slightly, trust the process... And I was able to keep my post and catch him right before the pin! From there I was able to out-armwrestle him and go on to win the match. All that from listening to Devon explain allowing yourself to lose certain fundamentals to retain others when you're not the stronger man!
@johnhorner1969
@johnhorner1969 2 жыл бұрын
In jiu jitsu there is a saying “position before submission.” Which means you shouldn’t always be working to submit your opponent, especially from weaker positions. I think armwrestling is the same. You can’t pin until you have achieved control or have a position of superior court tell over your opponent, whether hand control, or a hook you pull to your side of the table, then you can proceed to pin. I think I’d guys started to reframe the sport as first gaining superior control then working on pinning, you’d have more success.

there's different styles. Todd hutchings knows that he will never have the biggest strongest hand so he doesn't care as much about position as he does for sideways strength. It really depends on your physical traits, but pronation, cupping and rising will always be the most important things as they get you the position you need to win.

The man is close to fifty years. There is seriously not more strength for him to develop - if any. With age white or fast twitch muscle fibers turn into red or slow twitch fibers which are for endurance. That is why they say: Sprinters are born, long distance runners are made. That's one thing. Dave is strong but he is not really the smartest and his defensive abilities aren't really that good either. Plus he can't hook anymore too. So not really a good benchmark to compare, if someone with Dave's strength had Devon's table iq and endurance they would wreck havoc on the table
@StevenRayW
@StevenRayW 2 жыл бұрын
@@HulkSmashB Sure. But since we are talking about strength and Dave is undeniably the strongest puller in North America strength-wise, his poor performance against Levan tells us that even if Devon had managed to improve his strength to Dave's level, the gap would've still been huge.

I don't care how much you love khabib nurgamdov... He will never stand a chance against brock lesner or Cain Velasquez... They got over 100 pounds on the guy. This wasn't a loss, Devon was punching upwards in weight class so high this just wasn't right. I was never excited for the levon match because levon is used to be 400 friggin pounds and Devon had to really push the limits of his body to simply make the higher weight... Devon is a total champion and this was just a match for fun in my eyes.

So what Devon said here is that he didn't take enough risks and if there is next time he will start juicing sooner and take more things to get waaaay too strong-er.

Whichever way he analyzes it, he won't beat Levan. Devon is 20 stone and Levan is more than 28 stone, a massive difference. Larry Wheels did some training with Levan and was completely blown away by Levans power. Nobody can rival this Georgian hulk. If Schoolboy was 28 stone it would be an interesting match. Otherwise .............

I lived the first 30 years of my life terribly, yet approaching 40 my life is easy. Devon should not have said "no matter how smart you are". If you're smart enough you do not need to grind all your life. Unless you want to become the best at something, of course. But I understand that's his perspective doing a sport which is very hard to make a living with.

Devon could gain 50 pounds, work on strength, have Jesus and Ronald Mcdonald in his corner and wouldn't beat Levan.

100+ more lbs and a healthy dose of of HGH / PED cocktails while cloud bathing inside a bubbling pool at a 5 star resort in Chernobyl. Some things are just impossible. No amount of trash talk or tricky hand slipping was going to save you against that monster.

I'm no expert in Arm wrestling but I'm a bit confused about weight classes, are there any? it seems to be that Barrat and Levan are mismatched, no? shouldn't Levan be in a larger weight class? seems somewhat unfair

Yeah I hear that but it's going in money or not the other I heard this kind of smack talk 6 months before your arm wrestled Lavon and then after the first round I heard you say oh I got you you said something like oh yeah I got you I'm going to get you the delirious Devin Laurent yes so now all the sudden you have the new plan how you're going to be Lavon right okay I think they had to change your name to delusional Devon Laurent you and Ryan Bowen are starting to sound the same wishful thinking I guess on your part Devin he was the most beautiful side I ever saw when I saw the look of defeat in your eyes and expression on your face after all the training after all the trash talking you told the whole world how you could be Lavon and blah blah blah blah stand your own weight class why don't you arm wrestle monster Michael 💪 Todd again I think you guys are due for a rematch I think he will beat you this time

Devon is just a classic ectomorph. There's plenty of eating videos where Devon puts it down. Matt Mask even acknowledged that he can't believe how much Devon eats. It's just genetics and Devon's body fights him. You can't have the best of all worlds. Nobody has endurance like Devon, but there's going to be caps on his strength. Just like how Chaffee has insane strength and not great endurance. At this stage in Devon's career I think he should just compete at 110kg. It's where his body wants to be.
