High Asia Research Center: In conversation with Prominent Tibetan Writer Jamyang Norbu
Noted Tibetan writer and activist Jamyang Norbu sat down with vot.org to talk about his most recent project, High Asia Research Center in New York City. Idea to start a research institute, he said, was formed a few years ago with his friends. Narratives are central in how humans organise our society, he felt there is a need for Tibetan's own narrative in telling stories. Watch the full interview as he tells us about his aims for the future, what he hoped to achieve from this.

One of the most important Tibetan intellectuals in exile. Sadly the majority of Tibetan society in exile has failed to recognize his genius and his importance. This man is a pioneer and freedom fighter. And he walked the talk. Intellectual and guerilla warrior for Tibet.

You seem to be one of those who blindly believes everything he writes. JN was no guerilla warrior. His father Lhawang of Darjeeling was a brutally shrewd business man and JN was just in his late teens when he had gone to Mustang out of curiosity. Mind you that it was no heroism nor patriotism involved. Martyrs like Andrug Gonpo Tashi are rare and JN is far from these true heroes.

@@1user1212 Thank you for your information. I truly believe he wants to do what's best for Tibet like all Tibetans. We might not agree with his methods and brash personality (Khari-Khathug). For what it's worth, personally, I am an U-Mey Lam supporter. However, I do believe that he pointed out certain ills and backwardness of our society and he was ridiculed and ostracized for it. He might not have done it in the most skillful way but I think he was right. I also do not agree with his one sided ongoing beef with H.E. Samdhong Rinpoche la. Jamyang la happens to be quite uninformed in terms of his understanding of Buddhism and the depths to which Buddhist thought has really investigated the human mind, psychology, and the finer logical implications of quantum physics. Thuk-Je-Che and Bod Gyalo PS. I fail to comprehend what the sins of the father (alleged) have any bearing on the character of the son.

Emotional care like compassion and positivities are the real essence of Tibetan culture with that environmental protections and all secondary things follow. It should not be taken as light or backwardness.
