I stand 4-5 feet away from a shotgun mike. I knew boosting gain was not the way to make me louder, but its all I knew to do. I had no idea a compressor could make me sound louder without clipping gain. I adjusted the compressor settings and its working great, thanks!

Two people told me they found my voice soothing. So of course I had to record myself reading bedtime stories, because all my friends are stressed the freak out and I wanted to give them something that could help them out . Then, I struggled and got frustrated because I wanted a nice recording, obviously, but I know jackshit about sound stuff. And now I feel hopeful because you explain stuff nicely AND I GET IT and I'm so going to bingewatch your videos once I've slept a bit :p

Hi Josh, greetings from CHIAPAS MEXICO. I have a question about the sweet recipe and the addition of compressor, so, could we say that this is the order of the sweet recipe or where should be the compressor's place? 1 Noise Reduction 2 Noise Gate 3 Loudness Normalization 4 EQ 5 Compressor? 6 Limiter and run ACX? Thanks in advance for your time and effort with the videos, they are really well explained and pretty deep but on a simple understandable way, even for me as a non native English speaker. Greetings again.

I was confused as to why the track was louder after compression instead of quieter. Upon review I noticed that you put a check mark on "Make-up gain for 0 dB after compressing." If I understand correctly, you are compressing the louder portions of the track, but then amplifying the entire track to maintain the loudness level.

Thanks for the great tutorials! Just to clarify - are we trying to get rid of the dynamic change? For a vocalist, we often want those dynamic changes. How/why do we do compression in those situations? Thanks Josh!

You want the dynamics as a vocalist but we don’t want the quiet parts to be soo quiet it’s hard to hear them over the music. 🤙

Do you even need to compress at all, when the whole recording is made at essentially the same loudness?
@VoiceOverMaster3 жыл бұрын
It really just depends. Most of us need to use a little compression at least. It’s it’s already insanely equal I don’t believe so bit it also depends on what your RMS is reading as.

Hi, I wandering if there is any way to do the translation on audio file and record it? Technically I know it is, but I was trying to do it and it's not working. In some points when you translating you need to stopto think of a correct words and restart again. I hope you got some ideas and I'm sure it will be useful for many people.. Appreciate your job what you do, I learned allot from your videos.

Say you're narrating an audiobook where you do the voices for female and male characters. Different characters have different pitches and different ways of speaking. You want to keep them different. Should you avoid compression?

This is really handy video, however, the pencil tool example should not have been a plosive, those are best handled with a multi-band compressor (applied to a small selection) set to just reduce the low end. The pencil is used for join two waveforms that don't meet at zero when pasted in or fixing pops and clicks in a waveform where you can't mute because there is other content that needs to remain. Drawing out a glitch artfully would allow you to remove unwanted click or pop and make it unnoticeable. You can really "deep fake" an edit with that pencil but it takes practice.

Regarding the Ratio - What would be a good rule of thumb or at least a school of thought when making considerations between voice acting/dialogue vs. podcast/voiceover. Would I be right to conclude that the latter would benefit from a higher ratio whereas a lower ratio would benefit an acting performance because it retains more energy/dynamics? Many Thsnkf ro your channel and your knowledge. All The Best

Thanks for the effort and this video, But to all Christians out there don't get tattoos. Tattoos can open demonic portals in your life. And it seems like it also had pagan and witchcraft roots. Also other believers that have had tattoos regret it and testified against it. Though I'm not condemning anyone I just want to share that, Once again thanks Josh! Leviticus 19:28 King James Version 28 Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the Lord. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 King James Version 19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and *ye are not your own?* 20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God *in* your body, and *in* your spirit, which are God's. And it seems like in this verse it is saying that we should glorify God in us and did not say "glorify God in and out your body." So in our body can mean like attitude or behavior or something like that which is in our body and in our spirit which is the holy spirit. That is my understanding, I am not condeming anyone I suggest asking God for this matter if you are planning to get tattoos or have those already I just want to share the word.
