VoicePlay is my favorite! They are sort of affectionately called the #TheaterKidsofAcapella their videos are so good. The straight singing videos are incredible too, like Tennessee Whiskey, Bridge Over Troubled Water, We're Good, and so many others. But when they put the Play in VoicePlay they knock it out of the park. Geoff (the vampire) is just a complete dragon of a bass, Layne(the devil) is an incredible beatboxer, Eli (pronounced Ellie, the Mayor) has some of the best vocal runs I've ever heard. J None and Earl (the werewolf and the zombie) left the group but J None is in there new Halloween video for Friends On The Other Side (awesome version).

Most of the guys have a background working with Disney, but I don't know if they've actually done Broadway-style musical theater. They put a lot into their video production (they also do their own video work, including lighting and editing; mostly they only sub out makeup and occasionally costumes), as well as doing their own arrangements and the initial sound engineering (although like the other a cappella groups, the final mix is done by Ed Boyer). It's part of what I think sets this group apart, that total creative control of their projects from end to end; it's quite admirable. And while their Halloween videos do tend to be over the top, they also do pop and rock songs, as well as other theatrical (mostly Disney) numbers. One of their recent releases, a cover of Butter by BTS is super fun, as is their cover of If I Were A Rich Man/Girl, which covers the famous song from Fiddler on the Roof, while also giving a nod to Gwen Stefani's version as well. Honestly, you're hardly going to find a disappointing track; they always make their arrangements fun and creative, and their performances... well, you've heard them! Also worth mentioning, Geoff Castellucci, the bass singer for the group, has his own solo channel with covers that he performs. He calls them 'low bass singer covers', but don't be entirely fooled- the man has a 5 octave range, and he harmonizes with himself in those videos, and hits tenor notes as easily as he does bass subharmonics. These songs really have to be heard to be believed.

Geoff worked at Universal for 10 years in the Beetlejuice show. He played Frankenstein. Kathy (his wife) was Bride of Frankenstein for 12 years in a bit of foreshadowing - they weren't married when they started.
@shirleykarr5603 жыл бұрын
Kathy had to wait until Geoff was no longer jail bait -- they met when she was in college and he was 15, a freshman in high school. She was singing in an all-girl a cappella group and her dad asked them to visit his high school choir class. Geoff and Kathy sang and performed together for over a decade as friends before they married. The guys in Voiceplay have worked at various theme parks in Florida as well as performing on cruise ships, especially during the group's first iteration as 42Five. Founding members Layne (beatboxer) and Geoff (bassy boy -- LOL!) have been singing together since choir in middle school.

Their character voices are phenomenal. Eli, the bald one, can do more accents than I can count and do them while singing! Try Queen in 5 Minutes for another "theater" song, and any of their Disney melodies will show you more of their voice talents. I think Little Mermaid is my favorite, but only because Geoff is blue. LOL Oftentimes Geoff will sing the bass part like an actual bass guitar instead of a more traditional choral work. Carry On My Wayward Son really shows that.

Both VoicePlay and Geoff's private channel (Geoff Castellucci, the bass) have been doing Halloween releases regularly for awhile now. Geoff's this year is outstanding, a fabulously funny take on Monster Mash - and yes, there's WAYYYY too much going on to take it all in immediately. (The first take was scrapped as too seriously scary. Which makes me wish I could have seen it...) This year they also did a Halloween "short" (under a minute) a medley they called "Halloween Singers go Psycho." Accurate title, and a minute of silly fun. If you want to appreciate their voices, the suggestions below for Tennessee Whiskey and We're Good can't be beat. Gorgeous. If you want beautiful voices plus complexity that's so dense that other reactors have literally been left speechless, check Hoist the Colors.

Barry, I've been loving your reactions to PTX so i have a request that I'm praying you react to. It's for non other then PTX's amazing beatboxer Kevin "KO" Olusola. Its just him, in his home studio, making music with his looper and this Man is a Beast. In my view he is the most talented member of the group. I'm not taking away anything from Scott, Mitch, Kirsty, or Matt and Avi, but here's the low down on Kev. At age 5 he started to play a songs from the radio on a toy keyboard his dad bought for him on X-Mass, 3 days after he opened it ...by ear alone. His dad saw his gift and automatically put him in professional lessons for Piano but Kev also wanted more pro lessons as the years went on, and by the age of 10 he was being taught professionally on the Piano, Saxophone and Cello. The Cello was his main instrument but he is classically taught on all 3 instruments and has preformed in Carnegie Hall twice as a soloist, once for Sax and the other Cello and that's before he was 17. He is the first person to invent and master Cello boxing, mixing classical Cello and urban hip hop beatboxing together. He's also a writer and brilliant music producer. He has also gotten his degree in Pre-Med and Asian Studies from Princeton and speaks perfect Mandarin Chinese, all this before the age of 21. When he finally met Scott and the other members of PTX to audition for The Sing Off on NBC they had only been a group for one day. I suggest you react to Kevin's cover of "Down" by Marian Hill kzbin.info/www/bejne/f3jNmGRvaM1nhc0 and my other fav is Kevin's remake of "Sign of the Times" by Harry Styles kzbin.info/www/bejne/nnOpnZuCerpqq7c You will blow your mind watching these. trust me and enjoy. This is what I love best about Voiceplay - their theatricality! They do a lot of Disney-esque covers, but they're equally great at retro rock classics as well. I think you'd love their '...In Five Minutes' series - 'Queen In Five Minutes,' 'Boybands In Five Minutes,' etc. They've also done 'Carry On My Wayward Son,' 'Mr. Blue Sky' and a host of other rock classics. Oh and Geoff Castellucci (Scary Bass Guy) also does a lot of solo stuff too.

I love your reaction. Brilliant. I have never seen the film either, not my thing really, but I love what VoicePlay do with the songs. Genius. There is a behind the scenes of this too, showing the make up being done etc. There are four songs they do from the film, this one doesn't really feature one person in particular. The Oogie Boogie one features Geoff's incredible vocal range, plus more character voices, then there's What's This, and Kidnap the Sandy Claws, which is different again and features Rachel Potter. A lot of fun. This year's offering is Friends on the Other Side which is brilliant. Another one with too much to take in at once is less Halloween based but still stunning, Hoist The Colours, from Pirates of the Caribbean: World's End. To hear their voices normally, try Can't Help Falling In Love, or maybe Mr Blue Sky. But so so many wonderful videos waiting for you.

While they're excellent at "character" songs, they're incredibly talented musicians who sing other types of music as well. You should react to "My Mother Told Me"; it's still character-esque but more musically inclined. A few that are simply gorgeous music include "I Can't Make You Love Me", "Man in the Mirror", or "Go the Distance". I really feel like this is a group looking for an original song to become a hit - because everything they do is SO good, they make it look effortless.

@@ItsmeBarry OKAY. I accept the challenge. Do you know what I'll do? I'll start writing my novel little by little, and I'll put a piece in each of your videos. But the order I choose! You will have to find them! would you want to play with me?

Most of their videos are highly theatrical. You can find many that showcase their voices. Bummer I missed the chat, but life gets in the way sometimes.

I have seen a video of them doing oogie boogie live... But the problem was that on his lowest notes... The camera microphone could not pick it up. Literally there are sections where the bass drops out of the audio.

You might enjoy their latest release Friends On The Other Side from the Princess and the Frog. One can consider it sorta spooky.

I have to say that these guys really know how to use the discord, which is usually hard for vocalist to use.

In "The Monster Mash", the dead girl that rises from the casket is Geoff's real life wife.

I implore you, please watch more voiceplay videos. Theyve got a glorious catalogue of cacophonous gems for you to critique and revel in. They do like to do bits of character work it seems, and their videos are as good as their voices. Sublime. I'd recommend Hoist the Colours, and if you've seen a Disney film or two, check out their Moana and Little mermaid medleys the arrangements are mind blowing, and their version of We don't talk about Bruno from Encanto is a fantastic experience.

You should check out Geoff Castellucci's version of Monster Mash or his version the Headless Horseman

For a not so theatrical song you should watch Tenessee Whisky. It's just their beautifull voices. What I like is the variety of their work. There is no traditional song.

I'd love for you to react to Geoff Castellucci singing Monster Mash given it is the Halloween season 😁 It's his latest video and it's amazing.

You should do "Hoist the colors" from the movie Pirates of the Caribbean. Then you should fall into the Geoff rabbit hole.
