What a fun and interesting reaction! I'm glad you were recommended to listen to VoicePlay - they are one of my favorite a cappella groups, and they always manage to surprise with their arrangements, performances, costumes, and settings. They are known as "the theater kids of a cappella", and for good reason! This song was arranged by Rob Dietz and Geoff Castellucci (the bass singer who surprised you with his low notes). Geoff and Layne Stein (the beatboxer - if the noise doesn't sound human, it's probably made by Layne!) generally split the arranging duties between them, but Eli (rhymes with jelly, the bald tenor) is really beginning to do more work in that area. VoicePlay doesn't have a record company or even a manager (their choice), so pausing to break down the videos isn't really necessary for them - but I enjoyed your comments very much, so don't change how you're doing things! Recommendations: Nothing Else Matters, I Can't Make You Love Me (featuring E J Cardona, Omar's brother), Seven Nation Army, Sleeping in the Cold Below (with Omar as featured artist again).

The guys who make up VoicePlay are some of the most talented vocalists I've ever heard, true artists in every sense of the word. They are 100% independent, and do nearly all of the work (from arrangement to conceptualizing/sourcing/directing/shooting/editing of the videos to promotion and performance) is coming from those guys and Geoff's (the bass vocalist) wife, Kathy, who is their production manager. Geoff also has a solo channel where he posts non-acappella covers (highly recommend you take a look at those), and Layne (the beatboxer) is co-owner of Pattycake Productions, which is a video production studio that is also doing some great work.

Cesar with the mohawk doesn’t normally sing that high. He is actually the baritone of the group. But he wanted to try and hit that note so they said he could give it a try. Normally Eli hits higher notes as does Omar who was the guest artist. But he really wanted to try so they decided to provide the harmonies. I find it pretty phenomenal that the three of them were able to hit that note pretty much in unison. They are my favorite a cappella group because they cover a wide variety of genres, do all the work themselves as they are completely independent, often have a theatrical element to the videos, and they arrange for the voices that they have. Omar was a guest artist because right now they are down to four permanent members although they usually have five. The bass and the beatboxer boxer met in the middle school and have been performing together since high school which is about 25 years ago! Because they’ve been around for so long there often been some changes in the lineup, almost all of them in the baritone spot. I hope you’ll cover them again and you might want to check out Geoff’s solo channel. He does not do a cappella on his solo channel. He adds instrumentation through his keyboard and plug-ins. He does those with he and his wife and occasionally the beatboxer who acts The steady cam operator.

Welcome to the wonderful world of VoicePlay!!!! They are my all-time favorite acapella group. Geoff Castellucci (the bass) is amazing and has a 5-octave range. He also has his own KZbin channel. I have subscribed to see more VoicePlay and hopefully Geoff reactions. For VoicePlay, I would recommend: Valhalla Calling; Hoist the Colors; Hellfire; Seven Nation Army; Creep; Black Hole Sun; The Dragonborn Comes & Nothing Else Matters. These are just a few of my favorites, but any song you choose will be great. For Geoff, I would recommend: Far Over The Misty Mountains Cold; I See Fire; 16 Tons; You Don't Mess Around With Jim; Unshaken; and Ain't No Sunshine. But anything you choose will be great.

@@mamiemartinson4649, and, from what I have heard from Geoff, I am sure he could easily drop into the negative octaves using vocal fry. My chest range isn't much deeper than Geoff's (mine goes down to an E1), and I can fry down to a G-1. Geoff has been using more vocal fry lately, so maybe we will hear him dropping even deeper.

If you enjoyed the bass singer, I HIGHLY recommend you visit his solo channel for his non a cappella low bass covers. His name is Geoff Castellucci, and he does roughly half of the arrangements for VoicePlay (this song was one of them) with Layne Stein (the beatboxer) doing the other half. Though Eli (rhymes with jelly, he's the bald guy) Jacobson has been doing more arrangements as of late. Geoff's made a few videos where he talks about how to sing low. His wife used to be a singer, until she developed profound hearing loss, and they have a video where they talk about it. One of the things I appreciate about his low singing, is how clearly he enunciates his words. It's all too easy for a bass singer's words to just kind of get lost in the sound & are hard to understand. I think his wife's hearing loss is why he takes such care with how he delivers lyrics in the bass range. Truly remarkable talent, and he just an all around wonderful human being (as are ALL the other members of VoicePlay & the featured artists they've worked with over the years)

Hola de nuevo, Gabi! Es maravilloso escuchar grupos jóvenes que sí cantan y retoman para eso al rock, aunque le hagan otros arreglos. Ojalá le des oportunidad a otros jóvenes como el sueco Erick Gronwall con esta misma canción o cantando I will always love you con su estilo rockero melódico...tiene unos agudos impresionantes y sin efectos...sé que te sorprenderá. Por supuesto te sugiero nuevamente escuchar al grupo femenil de Monterrey, México, The Warning, con canciones como Chocke, Automatic Sun, Hell you call a dream, Amoure, More, Sick, Evolve, entre otros éxitos. Ellas regresaron de un tour en Europa y Japón y este miércoles se presentan en el programa de Jimmy Kimmel Live en USA...son cantantes, compositoras y músicos y son solo tres y la baterista canta y toca la batería al mismo tiempo...la premiaron como la mejor baterista, hombre o mujer, del mundo el año pasado!! Como te dijeron más arriba, ellos son artistas independientes y no vas a tener problemas de copyright. Con respecto a quién hace los arreglos casi siempre es Layne (beatboxer) o Geoff (bajo). En la descripción de cada video siempre especifican quién hizo qué. Mandate por este camino de ida que es Voiceplay, que no te vas a arrepentir. Bienvenido al mundo de Voiceplay! Perdone, estoy algo a falta de practica con el Castellano y me olvidé como se dice "rabbit hole" en Español 🙂. Voiceplay es un grupo con base en Orlando, Florida, y es, por lo que sé, el mas viejo entre los tres mas conocidos grupos a cappella, los otros dos siendo Pentatonix y Home Free. Nacieron en 1997 con el nombre de "4:2:Five", y todavía tienen dos de los miembros originales, Geoff (pronuncia "Jeff") Castellucci, el bajo, y Layne Stein, el beatboxer. Los otros miembros son actualmente Eli (pronunciado como en Español, Eli) Jacobsen, el chico que abrió esta canción, y Cesar De la Rosa, el del pelo con cresta. La historia de sus cambios de formación se halla en un interesante video por Huldra Draco. 🙂 Como al momento se hallan con solo 4 miembros, acostumbran traer un huésped para completar la formación. Omar Cardona es uno de ellos, su hermano EJ Cardona es otro, y otros mas son José Rosario Jr, Anthony Gargiula, DJ Young, y otros... y después hay J None, que ha sido miembro oficial antes de ser reclutado por la Marina de EUA para cantar con ellos pero sigue grabando con los amigos cuando está de vaga. También hay cantoras como Adriana Arellano, Rachel Potter, Emony Wilkins y mas. Hay un video, titulado "Just Sing", que fue grabado en las primeras fases de la pandemia de Covid para ayudar a los artistas afectados por la situación, en el que es obligatorio tener los subtítulos activados, pues te van a decir a cada istante quien es el que está cantando y cual relacion tiene con ellos 🙂 Su repertorio es extremadamente variado. Como todos ellos pasaron por trabajar en los parques temáticos de Disney y Universal en Orlando como cantantes y performers, Ud. va a encontrar un montón de canciones y medleys basados en producciones Disney. Pero hicieron covers de clásicos de rock como esta canción, y hasta de "Nothing else matters" de Metallica, así como canciones y medleys de piezas de Broadway, de pop, de bandas sonoras de películas y videogames (muchos de esos videos son absolutamente fenomenales... "Halo Theme" por ejemplo, que fue la primera vez en que Geoff llegó a un B0, fue vista en una reacción conjunta por el mismo autor, que declaró que esa era "la mejor version que he escuchado, incluida la mia". O "Dragonborn comes - Skyrim", impresionante. Y también llegaron a hacer una version extremadamente creativa de "In the hall of the Mountain King", desde "Peer Gynt" de Edvard Grieg, comedia pura. El proximo video que van a soltar lleva los mismos personajes y va a ser un "classical chaos" 😅, no imagino lo que van a inventarse 🤩. Geoff y Layne hacen mas o menos el 50% de los arreglos cada uno. Eli también hizo algunos, y parece que acepto hacer mas, lo que es muy bueno. Geoff, el bajo, tiene un canal proprio en el que hace "Low Bass Singer covers". No son a cappella, el dijo que si quiere hacer algo a cappella lo hace con Voiceplay, però con certeza vale la pena explorarlo. El chico tiene CINCO octavas de extension vocal, y es bueno en todas las cinco 🙂. A el le gusta "multiplicarse" en 4 o 5 "clones", que hasta tienen nombres, y cantar todas las partes. A veces no es tan claro que siempre es el, como en las dos piezas de las películas de "El Hobbit", que engañaron muchos observadores. 🙂 Me inscrivi al canal en prevision de otras análisis de VP y, ojalà, de Geoff solo.
