Absolutely loved it as I knew you would love this one. Now that you love Eli (pronounced Ellie not E-Lie) and his rock god voice, you're going to love Valhalla Calling even more. In Hoist The Colours, there was supposed to be a different featured guest who couldn't make make the trip to Orlando because of Covid. Jose was local and able to fill in the part. I believe Eli and Jose switched parts because Eli had the higher range so that's why Jose's part wasn't more extensive. Jose is the feature in Drunken Sailor and My Mother Told Me. He's exceptional. Cesar is the newest full time member of the group for a few years now. He had the fake eye in Hoist The Colours. He's smooth, but has a high range. In Dream On (yes Aerosmith), it's Cesar who takes Steven Tyler's high note. You'll want to react to that one eventually. Anyway, loved your reaction. Also, ALL of the VoicePlay faithful will love it that you play the video through the credits at the end. Sometimes, Voiceplay will put some extra Behind the Scenes (BTS) clips at the end. We're just getting you to the entrance of the rabbit hole. Enjoy the ride!

Just in case it hasn't been said in your other Voiceplay reactions, they ARE the theater kids of acapella. They don't just cover songs, they upgrade them! They never cease to impress. Don't forget to check out Geoff's version of "I see fire" from The Hobbit. You won't be disappointed!
@patriciaschuman42058 ай бұрын
It's often been said that Geoff is "the gateway drug" that is the initial hook that draws you in when you first come across VoicePlay and it takes a few songs/listens for you to appreciate how phenomenal the other members are as well. Theatricality isn't everone's cup of tea, but i absolutely love how VoicePlay uses it to connect with to their audience and draw them in. I watched a pair of British reactors whose comment upon viewing this video was to say that it was a great arrangement but why in the world did they feel they had to be so theatrical? And to me, that comment is like someone watching a production of Hamlet and then saying that they didn't understand why the company felt they needed to have costumes and sets, after all the words of the play were enough to get the meaning across.

Thanks for your reaction! Yes, Voice Play are the theater kids of acapella music. As you know, they are from Orlando Florida and all the members and their frequently featured guests have worked as performers at Universal and/or Disney theme parks. No record label or contract as they are completely independent and do all of their own production, arrangements, editing, costumes, and makeup mostly in a studio owned by beatboxer, Layne Stein, and former baritone singer, Tony Wakim ( long time friend and makeup artist, Rick Underwood, that they worked with at Universal theme park helps with difficult makeup involving prosthetics) . This arrangement and editing was done by bass singer, Geoff Castellucci, as was the last one you reacted to "Nothing Else Matters". I would highly recommend "Valhalla Calling" for your next reaction as the arrangement and editing on that one was done by beatboxer, Layne Stein. Eli Jacobson, bald, high rock tenor did the lighting here as he always does along with technical effects on their covers. I would also recommend checking out their cover of "Creep" as Eli did the arrangement editing, lighting and pretty much every thing in that one.

This is why I gave them the #TheatreKidsOfACapella. In the BTS we find out that Cesar and Jose went to high school together and were in the same theater class. I enjoyed watching them unloading and putting together the set, setting up the lights. It's amazing how they do everything themselves.

Guest singers are almost always placed in the centre of the group. Originally there were five members, when one left they were eventually replaced but when Earl (an original member) left in 2020 they couldn't find a suitable replacement o they were four, then J.None left in 2021 to joing the navy music section, they were down to three, but the quickly found Cesar so they were four again. They bring in guests , as appropriate, to make up the five for the harmonies. You can see Jose again in My Mother Told Me, and Drunken Sailor.

Back row, Cesar de la Rosa, newest member, Jose Rosario Jr in the middle, Eli Jacobson (short for Eliezer, pronounced Ellie) rocking tenor. Front row, Layne Stein, beat boxer, bariton, with some surprises up his sleeve, and Geoff Castellucci, amazing bass and the arranger for this piece. Cesar had not been with them for long, and I thought that the part was a little difficult for him to sing. I was wrong - doesn't happen often. Eli's rock belt was unexpected. Not that he hadn't done it before, but it was rarer and not at this level. He wasn't originally supposed to sing that part, Covid travel restrictions prevented their planned collaborator from flying in. Jose was local, but his voice did not match the part. Eli had already recorded the part that Jose ended up singing, so had to practice and record the rocker part. Now try their version of Drunken Sailor, Jose is back, also a Geoff arrangement, and whatever you think they might do with it, you're wrong. Trust me!

From what I understand it was Anthony G that was supposed to collaborate so I don’t think it was originally going to be a “rocker” part. But when Eli did it, this was just the result. It was a happy accident 😅
@Badger777228 ай бұрын
@@thisismetoday7423 While it might not have been a "rocker" part, for Anthony G it would definitely have been a high tenor part, and I think they made the right choice in having Jose sing Eli's original part - I really don't think Jose's voice would match what they had written for Anthony G.
@thisismetoday74238 ай бұрын
@@Badger77722 Oh, for sure… Anthony’s voice may be high but he doesn’t have the grit Eli displayed and my opinion is that’s a huge part of what made this cover really epic. So, I’m really glad it worked out the way it did. Even though I love Anthony 😅

Jose very graciously stepped in at the last minute when another artist wasn't able to make it due to Covid issues. Eli had to take over the other gent's part, as it was out of Jose's range; that's why he, sadly, wasn't featured as much as their guest artists usually are. That minor disappointment aside (I'd love to have heard a little more of Jose too,) I consider it a happy accident that gave us an absolutely perfect pirate captain and some of Eli's most glorious rock belts to date.
@Badger777228 ай бұрын
100% agree! It would have been nice to hear more of Jose, but this allowed Eli to really show off his rock-tenor chops. And it was so nice of Jose to step in and fill a less-featured role - that's a real friend and colleague!

Jose featured in Drunken Sailor as well. It is a lot of fun.

Pirate captain Jose returns in Drunken Sailor, which will also allow you to see their silly side. Definitely keep that one going after the song is over. You'll see why when you get there. 😉 He was also in My Mother Told Me and some of their minis (Dance Magic Dance from Labyrinth is my favorite of those), but Drunken Sailor is the best follow up to this one.

Jose is such a charming rogue! I love all VP's songs with him. This is my number one, with "What Do We Do With A Drunken Sailor" coming in a very close second. And then there's "My Mother Told Me," a Viking tune, he has the cutest little nose wrinkle in it! Jose plays an excellent man of the sea! 💙

If you are looking for the highest highs and the lowest lows, you will need to check out Valhalla Calling. Geoff sustains a B0, the next to last key on an 88 key piano. Eli sustains a G5, as high as legendary female singers like Whitney Houston can hit. It also happens to be a blood pumping rock anthem like you’ve never heard
