I agree with your assessment! Voiceplay definitely does it better! No disrespect meant to TNBC, of course.

I follow Voiceplay, so first heard VP Oogie Boogie, then went to see the movie clip... Oogie Boogie in the movie the whole thing felt as plastic as the claymation.

Having 5 kids I've seen this too many times I care to mention. I definitely agree Voiceplay killed it for sure. This would have really put the movie on another level.
@christinapolander40253 жыл бұрын
I agree as well. I grew up watching the movie and loving all the music, but I've always been hesitant about oogie boogie. I can usually only hear his song once every halloween and then I'm done. I discovered voiceplay's version two months ago and I've been obsessively listening to it ever since (as well as watching reaction videos)
@leechowning27123 жыл бұрын
From what I have seen of the movie Oogie Boogie is supposed to be a misunderstood villain. In this case, that doesn't work. His voice is just wrong for "I don't realize I am Evil". It is why his Headless Horseman song is so powerful. He is believable as a true evil.

Can you do Thurl Ravenscroft “headless horseman” vs Geoff Castellucci “headless horseman” Geoff is the guy who sings lead in this!

???no mention of the incredible harmonies, the beatboxing, the syncopated rhythms, or the amazing 5 octave range of Geoff Castalucci, not to mention that last subharmonic bass note. Please listen to it again, and pay attention.

Calm down, my friend. I said plenty of times how good they were. It was the first time hearing voice play, so I didn't know who Geoff was at the time.

Once again Birdman, your analysis of Santa with the kids manic, VS the fear of the boogeyman blew my mind. I’ve watched this video of Voiceplay as well as other reactions to it. Never thought about it like that!

I have loved the movie since it came out - have worn out the VHS (yes, I'm old) and one DVD, had the soundtrack, the whole nine yards. That being said...Voice Play's cover of this song is so much better than the original that I don't even like to hear the original anymore. Geoff is indescribable in this - especially that last note!
@BirdmansPlace4 жыл бұрын
Yes...I couldn't agree more. But I do need to watch that movie..lol.

Voiceplay is better technically, but I just love Ken Page's characterizations in the movie version. Both Ken Page and Geoff Castelucci are treasures to be protected at all costs.

I mean, yeah, the movie is from my childhood, so it will always be amazing. Technical ability, oh, no comparison with what Voiceplay did. They are both great for different reasons.

The original Oogie Boogie was Ken Page, who is an iconic singer. He also plsyed Deuteronomy in the original "Cats." I can't fault his performance at all. Having said tgat, i can't get enough of this Voiceplay perfotmance.

Geoff has a 5 octave vocal range and his last note wasn't as low as he can go. However it was an impressive E1. On his own channel he does a long list of song. I'd like to see your reactions to "Blackbird" and "Sixteen Tons". 😎

voice play did it much better. that being said, I do enjoy the OG version quite a lot more. VP's version is much more sinister and better made (both visual and audio), but TNBC does a MUCH better job at actually showing Oogie Boogie's personality (which to me is the most important thing a song should do); pure chaos, madness and a villain who just wants to have fun.
