Oddly, I used to feel like I was cheating on Pentatonix, who I discovered at least a year before I found VoicePlay. I still love PTX, but VoicePlay is now the top of the pyramid for me. And in part, it's because they are so entirely self-produced. Think about how much goes into one of these music videos, then check the credits and so much of what's involved is handled by a member of the group. Which prompts me to point out that Eli is now a master at the Lighting - just watch Creep (also arranged by Eli) to see my point. I am blown away by how massively talented these guys are, every time they show up on my screen.

VoicePlay currently has over 1700 patrons. The ones listed on the video are just the top tiers. But you had it right in what kind of people they are. They are VERY good to their patrons. Occasionally they hold an auction (open only to patrons) to support charity. Usually a music or hunger charity. In one they auctioned off the journal that Eli wrote in during this shoot. It went for a lot of money, but since the winner hasn’t shared, we may never know what he was writing. Next week they will premier another new video. They’ve already made the announcement that it will be Drunken Sailor, with Jose Rosario and Matt (Bucky) Buckner, who used to be a VoicePlay member. (Long time ago). I’m normally calm about new videos, but this one was SO funny that at one point I laughed hard enough to cause a nosebleed! AND - it has been officially announced that in November, VoicePlay will be singing with Chicago in a couple of concerts. The concerts will be filmed and later distributed, probably by a streaming service. Needless to say, we are all excited about this news. And we all hope things work out for Eli to be there. (He’s expecting his first child - a son - in November.)

So I've watched this video a million and one times and I'm pretty sure he writes Dream On, Journey and things like that in the journal but I could be wrong. That's just what it looks like to me from my analysis

VoicePlay is and always will be my favorite. Their talent, personalities, work ethic, skills.... There's nothing that can live up to that. But no need to feel like you are cheating on them for enjoying other music as well. Home Free are friends of theirs, and the a cappella community is all about supporting and enjoying a cappella in all shapes and forms. I also enjoy a good bit of Home Free's music, they are super talented and nice guys. It's perfectly fine to enjoy both even if you prefer one band over the other. Just because you're a big fan of one band, doesn't mean other bands can't be great as well!

Thank you! I really appreciate when a reactor says it straight out: I love VoicePlay the most. Because so do I. They are so amazingly talented and they can do everything! Who thought it was even possible to do an acappella version of “Nothing Else Matters”? They’ve done so many different songs and they keep getting better and better. I am definitely a VoicePlay fan - a VoicePlaya. 🥰👍

I'm so understanding what you're talking about right now! I had heard PTX. I had heard Home Free. I thought they were amazing and super talented, but I didn't particularly follow them. From the first VP video I saw, I got yanked straight down the rabbit hole. Their arrangements kept me entertained and interested in a way that no one else did. Love the reaction! If you haven't already seen them, their most recent covers of 'Seven Nation Army', In The Air Tonight' (my personal favorite!) and Creep are stunning! One small point - you do NOT have to blur/cover their videos, you won't have any issues with them! EDIT: OK, you've done two of those, but the Phil Collins cover is one of their best so far - and Geoff's 'solo' work on his channel, like 'Sixteen Tons' and 'Way On Down' are equally amazing! 😊

You always make me laugh - yep, I'm totally in love with VoicePlay too, so I get it. They very occasionally do a song that I don't like enough to listen to frequently - but I've NEVER heard them produce anything but excellence. And even songs I don't care for become beautiful when VP does them. My favorite example of that is one of Geoff's - God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. I was so sick of hearing that song that I was actively disappointed when I saw he was about to release it. Then I listened, and was immediately enthralled. I LOVE it. Not a single boring moment left - all transformed. They are the best sort of magicians - they are artists.

I adore you! And I feel the exact same way about VoicePlay, and it makes me so happy every time I hear a reactor saying those things. Because there really is a kind of magic to VoicePlay, and the community that it inspires, and when you get it, you *get it*, and you really connect to the artistry that they are creating. These guys are crafting something so much greater than just a song or two, and I love it when reactors get that like you clearly do. These guys are artists in the truest sense of the word, and I appreciate them so much for doing what they love on their own terms. So hey, if you're biased, so are we! VoicePlay *is* the standard.

I picture a "sound guy" getting the files to combine them and thinking "What are they paying me to do?" When the singers have this level of control, the sound work gets to add all of the little details that create magic.

VoicePlay is my favorite a cappella group too. They are so talented, not just with singing, but arranging, lighting, set design, video concepts, costumes....everything. And yet, they also come across as some of the most humble, down to earth, caring people. I'm glad to see so many people in the comments expressing the same feeling of how VoicePlay just struck a chord (no pun intended) within us and we were just hooked. There is no going back, and I'm okay with that. ☺

I seem to remember them saying the e-e-ey was a bit of both. They sang it like that but it may have been slightly emphasised later. Not sure why this one was blanked out so much, Despite what some people say I know they don't block videos, I see many many reactors with no filter at all , and they don't get blocked. I know what you mean about VoicePlay. All their fans feel the same, They are so much more than just singers, or just artists, or just arrangers, editors, whatever. They are lovely lovely people and it's obvious. It comes across in everything they do.

Well, maybe not the end, I can go on and on about them and everything they do. One person said that their version of Dream On seemed to be coming from life experience. The past is gone. That made perfect sense to me. Omar was in Dragonborn and also did Stevie Wonder's Superstition with them. Voiceplay will be releasing their new video either this Friday or next Friday Aug 11th. What's better than 4 drunken sailors? Why 6 drunken sailors of course. Make sure you watch to the very end. I kinda understand what you say about Voiceplay and Home Free. I do all my best to keep putting them on the same spot. Understand me, I just love Home Free as well, and they are still as great as ever, I just find myself looking forward to watching the next Voiceplay video, and forgetting about what did Home Free release in the meanwhile. I think it's because I perceive Voiceplay more "free" somehow. They don't have a label and are fully supported by their Patreons, so they can do whatever song they want the exact way they want to do it, and they keep having lots of fun doing it. I may be wrong, of course, but my subjective perception is that, as did Pentatonix before them, Home Free is losing a tad of that characteristic. They're still exceptional, and I still love them, but even so I keep returning to Voiceplay. There must be a reason. 🙂 Loved your reaction once more, of course. 🙂 See you next time.

Same here, man. Same here. Pentatonix was my first acapella group since Rockapella (loved those guys as a kid but didn't really follow them). However, I just didn't really get "into" PTX. I actually discovered VoicePlay by chance when "Oogie Boogie" went viral, but again, didn't follow them. It was GEOFF who sent me down the rabbit hole. "Misty Mountains Cold" went viral, and then I saw 16 Tons (my grandpa's favorite song) and soon I binged his site. Then saw he was in an acapella group. I freely admit, I'm OBSESSED with VoicePlay. I follow them on the socials. I dearly wish I could afford to be a Patron (can't even afford groceries this month). They are a source of joy in dark times. They don't just stick to one genre, but mix it up and throw in surprises. That's what makes them awesome: talent and variety. VoicePlaya fo' Evah!

@ArabManReacts
@ArabManReacts Жыл бұрын
It’s an entire system, every piece of content on KZbin gets a unique content ID. When you upload content the algorithm knows if you’re using any content created by someone else on your video. Music is also very very veryyyyyy weird in the way that Copyrights works for it. It has a lot to do with what entity is choosing to release copyright claims. So after we upload it immediately gets flagged, then we dispute to ask for the ‘entity’ to release the claim. That dispute goes to an actual human, who it goes to (I think) depends on the region it is being claimed in. Like ilona said for the most part Voiceplay videos release claims, if they claim them to begin with. But there are exceptions. I’ve had claims 2 years old get released on some artists. I’ve had copyright claims pop out 2 years later on videos and those videos get take down entirely. KZbin indeed is a strange land 🥲

One of the things I have been learning about my ADHD is the struggles with dopamine (the happiness hormone). Basically, it is harder for us to be happy, cause we struggle to get dopamine to the receptors that tell our brain "this makes us happy!" Which is why when someone with ADHD finds something that DOES give them that dopamine hit, they will hold onto it so tightly. VoicePlay (and Geoff's solo stuff) are nothing but pure dopamine for me.

Loved your reaction. I like HomeFree, too, and am happy to see them live these fall - but I like them in a different sense. They are nice, laid-back guys, sometimes they are really funny, a tad sentimental - I think they make a great live band because of their chemistry... nothing wrong with that. For me, most HomeFree music is feelgood music. I enjoy watching them doing stuff together and making high-quality music. But musically, by now, VoicePlay is another league. If I want to listen and be stunned with awe because of insane harmonies... or insane costumes... or insanely cut videos... or insane harmonies... with subharmonics... I'll turn to VoicePlay. And that's that. I discovered the world of international A capella via PTX - but their new stuff just isn't my kind of music anymore. They are good and deserve every fan there is out there. Just not for me anymore. So - I definitely am with you here. And will wait eagerly for any new VP-song being published.

They leave no stone under turned. Geoff said in an interview that they would rather perform their videos for their fans than go on tour. They can't do both. 100 % studio work I think they cut the trimmed the edges just a little bit to produce this clean cut feel. It was meant to sound 'produced' (my opinion). Great reaction :)

I don't see a video reacting to Voiceplay's "Hoist the Colors." Correct this immediately!! Their version of this song from Pirates of the Caribbean is unreal!

SAH🙏 TY for this great version. I wasn’t fond of the original because I don’t like his voice. My favorite version will however not change. It’s a band that surprised me doing the preconcert for the Cure and create a magical evening in one of my first concerts. Their version on their goodbye tour remains the best, but being there makes you emotional and will never go away. That version is of course of the Mission…. kzbin.info/www/bejne/p4C1mYJolpunr8k

Like you, I am a VoicePlay fan. I've watched and listened to the others, but it's VoicePlay that consistently touches my heart, soul, and ears with their music. The others really get to me here and there, but not nearly as frequently, consistently, and deeply as VoicePlay does ❤ I'm glad i'm not alone in my regard for these wonderfully talented artists!

I am the EXACT same way! I like maybe one or two Home Free songs but i am a VoicePlaya for life. Ive tried listening to Home Free but i just can't get into them. The only other acapella group I like is Straight No Chaser but i really only like their Christmas songs. I MOST DEFINITELY look at VoicePlay (Geoff and Eli mainly*cough cough*) through heart eyes.
