The language they were using was Dovahzul, the language of the dragons, made up specifically for the game. It shoows dedication to what they do to learn the words in an entirely made up language just to sing one song. Eli did it proud with his pronunciation of the words too. Fus Ro Dah was a ' dragon shout' used in the game to create a blast that pushed back your enemies in combat.

Thank you for noticing that little duet between Geoff and Cesar in the beginning. A lot of peopl don’t notice it. But I love the juxtaposition of Geoff’s (uncharacteristically) rough tones and Cesar’s (uncharacteristically) mellow tones. Usually the thing I notice about Jeff’s face is how smooth it is and that little bit of grit just added to the whole atmosphere. And Cesar usually displays so much personality in his voice and he was nice and mellow and it was beautiful. The combination is just stunning.

As always, love your reaction to Voiceplay! I loved Geoff's arpeggiation (is that really a word?), but he did a drop just before that, about five notes that had a very romantic sound to it. I'm not a gamer and went into it blind, but wow, is this one good!! They each have a recording studio at home, they record, the arranger (Geoff or Layne usually) mixes it, sends it to Ed Boyer for the final mix. They put up and take down the sets themselves, sometimes build them as in The Greatest Showman. I'd love to hear you collaborate with them, but it would mean a trip to Orlando.

Great reaction, thanks. They've been pulling people in as featured performers for years. Some seem to think it's a work-around since they are at 4 members instead of 5 right now, but when they had 5 they sometimes brought in a 6th. Eli arranged a surprising, heart-breaking and exquisite cover of Eleanor Rigby for just 4 voices... Geoff once commented that 'the trick is arranging for the voices you have, not the voices you wish you had.' They do such a magnificent job of playing up each persons voice, and even someone who is brand new ends up sounding like they've been with them for years. (Of course, that also speaks to the quality and professional chops of those they bring in!) . Ashley Diane's first performance with them, in the wild updated cover of "If I were a Rich Man/Girl," is a gorgeous example...
@JenniferGlatzhofer2 жыл бұрын
Yes love that! Arrange for the voices you have, so important 😁

Oh, definitely check out If I Were A Rich Man/Girl. It’s another work of art by these guys! Also, I actually like that they keep it at four members, a baritone, tenor, bass, and beatboxer, leaving room in the budget for frequent guest singers. That way we get to hear lots of different, wonderfully talented people with them.
@janetdw2 жыл бұрын
@@lkayh me too! I know they won’t ever get anywhere near my little Podunk town and I’ll never get to see them in person. So I’m going to be really greedy and hope they stay at home and keep producing videos. And Layne wouldn’t be able to continue doing Villains lLair if they go on tour.
@lkayh2 жыл бұрын
@@janetdw I hope that’s what they’re thinking, too. I think sometime during the Quarantine they realized they weren’t going to be touring for the foreseeable future, and decided to up their game with the videos. What they’re putting out these days wouldn’t really be easy to tour with-imagine the costume changes, plus there’s so much layering in the audio-they’d have to play recorded harmonies in live shows or have a much thinner sound. The recordings would detract a bit from the whole acapella experience. Plus some of them have young children, so they may want to stay close to home for awhile anyway. Anyway, like you, I’m not likely to see them in concert, so I’d be bummed if they slowed down the release of these videos.

Otherwise, the title and thumbnail wouldn't have been much of an enticement (I confess, it took me forever to listen to their "My Mother Told Me" also for about the same reasons). But I was so glad I did stay to listen, I was blown away by this absolutely stunning arrangement. It's great to have a Voiceplay music video that I can share with my twenty-something son (who could also explain to me what the heck a Dragonborn was). So, I have one list saved to share with him and another for some of their other genres to share with my eighty-something stepmom. It's a rare day that goes by that I don't say: "Geoff, WHAT are you doing?" Followed by: "Geoff, HOW are you doing that?" Followed by: "Geoff, PLEASE do that again!"

Hi Jen, another song from a game with a made up language, which is like to see you take a look at is ‘Sugaan Essena’ by The Hu, this was a commissioned piece by EA for there Star Wars game Jedi: Fallen Order, the band wrote the song in Mongolian first (as a song released later as black thunder) then working with Star Wars linguists, created a new language and sung the song in that language.

If it wasnt mention it is a theme song and a song by a bard in the video game elder scrolls skyrim. The language is or was a language created specifically for that game. The original song is decent too. Peter Hollens and maluka also did this song too.

When you click your fingers behind your shoulders, what does it mean?
Not quite sure if anyone realizes the significance of the breath during the song. If you watch any of the fight scenes in the game, the main character uses dragon words spoken as weapons against the dragons, and you can see the visual effect almost like a wind blown from the persons mouth.
