I have no problem paying for these programs for inmates. Eventually most will be released and I'd rather they have skills than go back to a life of crime.

At some point in the podcast the host actually mentioned that most san quinten inmates who have served a long sentence, actually do quite well out there in society. I can see how that wouldn't be the case if all they could do is sit around and watch TV.

You must not have been a criminal or lived in a ghetto.. Those programs will never change them if anything it will make less fearfull of commiting crimes.. I know because grew up in the ghettoest barrios here in california.

Ear hustle is an amazing podcast!! It’s so important to humanize these people, especially considering most of them aren’t gonna be in jail forever.

How can we expect for people to learn the value of human dignity if we treat those who don't know that value, as if they have none? That is why correctional facilities like this are important to humanity. Thanks for this story.

maybe if we looked at helping uplift all children when they are young, we would have fewer in prison.

My dad was a guard at San Q when I was little after he was discharged from the Marines 😢 The bakery at the prison made my first birthday cake and it was beautiful I’ve seen pictures of it unfortunately I can’t find them now and both of my parents have passed away so I don’t have that resource anymore 😢
