Charlie lived in my neighborhood just a few doors down from me as a kid. And then he was a substitute teacher for some of the classes I had. All these years later, I am not sure why, but his name came to mind and to my surprise, here he is in an interview! Now, as a mature adult, I wished I could have appreciated his status as a wounded veteran back then. It makes me sad to think of how many vets I may have met over the years and never had a chance to learn of their experiences. This video is wonderful and has given me a chance to learn more about this American hero. Thank you for your service, Marine!

My uncle Gary made it through Vietnam and had to drive down to Missouri to sign his discharge papers and was killed in a car accident.. man so sad! God bless you brother!!

To put it mildly, everyone I've seen you interview has had amazing and truly insightful experiences that they have shared. Charlie Mason, this true gentleman's story is beyond inspirational. It's not so much the story though, it's the man he is, it's how someone can go through so much and come out having that kind of wonderful smile and outlook on life. You can measure a mans strength in many ways but I don't know that I've seen a more exact example of real, true strength than what Charlie displays. You Sir speak my heart. We are the same generation and I remember the social situation then. I supported our troops; at least I was wise enough to know the difference. My youngest served Naval Aviation and was a wounded vet. She has the same gun ho attitude as you and overcame her injury to become a police officer. She had told me when i asked, what do i do if you are hurt? She said, mum be proud of me. We are a military family for 7 generations. Guess it is in our blood. thak you sir for your service to my country and my family.God bless you and your family.in 69 i was12 years old.i always thought of you as my older brothers.at 12 years old i was a hawk.i seethed at the protesters as only a boy could.i didnt completely understand the war at12 but i knew my older brothers were fighting bravely for my country.in catholic school the nuns had us write letters to you guys..i asked one of you to send me some grenades.i got a reply but no grenades.just as well.there might have been a few less protesters.LOL! i was 12 so cut me some slack.i have and always will support those who defend our country.as in every group there are a few bad apples.and as usual the media would pump the worst of the bad apples.the majority by far served honorably.and i thank them for the freedom i have today.god bless all who serve!the fallen are never forgotten .we carry them in our hearts everyday!
