A friend of mine said he went home on leave after BCT/AIT. After Thanksgiving dinner they sat down and watched the evening news. They described the heavy fighting 4th ID was engaged in. He said 6 days later he was in Vietnam fighting with the 4th!

Thank you for your service to our country. We'll be eternally grateful. We learned allot of lessons from the Viet Nam war about how our vets need to be respected and honored. I just wish the people in DC would have learned that lesson.

I had a friend that was a combat medic in the 4th ID. He served with the 4th Infantry Division, 2nd Squadron, 1st Cavalry, Headquarters Troop and was killed in 2/1968, about 2 weeks before he was scheduled to come home. His mom never did recover emotionally, I don't think. I don't know of many families that could.
