This is beautiful as the chance meeting of a dessert spoon impregnated with chocolate and a plastic bottle without a protective cap, on the edge of a devastated heath covered with weeds following a succession of bad weather caused by a depression coming from northern Europa

I've been literally chilling to this album, while I'm explaining 12edo music theory to a friend, can't wait to explain him what is a neutral chord, there are only minor and major 3rds on 12edo xD

Would love to sing a microtonal piece, from what ive seen Sevish and others they mostly use synthetic voices. There was this one song or two I remember that was dissonant from just randomly scrolling. I have pretty good pitch perception too; could compose myself one.

I found you through some random comment under a sevish piece I think and subscribed yesterday. Already worth it. ( not that it cost me anything, just glad I subscribed ) Yes!

The thing with this lo-fi stuff and it's microtonality is that somehow the people who make it (not this video) often don't realize they're delving into microtonality. After a few decades of classical composers and theorists designing microtonal compositions and instruments, my honest assessment is that little of their music is very enjoyable to listen to. I dare say, it isnt very musical half the time. Meanwhile, in the wide world of music, there are all kinds of musical forms and playing styles which we could actually call microtonal. They don't call it that. They don't think of it in that language. It's simply part of their own musical language. Perhaps a new microtonal music theory should start by systematically understanding what makes those non-Westerm and non-classical musical languages work so well. They aren't necessarily "bending pitch" or "off pitch". They're findibg sounds that mesh in interesting or meaningful ways and turning that into a pattern and a style.

The basis of harmony is the hertz of two notes being proportional in real numbers. 1/2 is the most harmonious, being an octave. Then 2/3, 3/4, 4/5, 3/5 and so on. A system such as 31 EDO, which is common in microtonality, has several chords that are closer to perfectly harmonious than standard western music, which is 12 EDO. Many people think most music is “just intonation” (perfectly proportioned notes) but it’s not, it’s imperfect. The real beauty behind microtonality isn’t just that some notes are closer to just intonation than western, but that there’s whole new sets of chords carrying their own emotional resonance which won’t be experienced in western. I do agree that some of it should be a bit more standardized but I also think alternative EDO’s potential is typically undervalued. I’d recommend “Love Particle” by Benyamind, it’s my favorite alt edo piece Edit: Forgot to mention, as someone who wants to have a high amount of creative output I find alt edo stimulates my artistic sensibilities more than any other music

@@jonathankey1533 Love Particle is my favorite too. I want to compose something inspired by it once I get around to setting up my keyboard. Or perhaps something in Mothra(6). I need practice , maybe this will motivate me more effectively.

Great set, I have been experiencing astral projection (for almost 2 years) and I have noticed that microtuning sounds have a lot of similarities with the way that sounds are formed in these other states, if I make myself understood. 32:30 best part :)
