Born near Mt. Pleasant, Mr. Key grew up in rural Urbana. A graduate of Lincoln High School, he first served as the President of the Lincoln Alumnae Association and then President of the African American Resources - Cultural Heritage Society (AARCH). As the AARCH Society president he was dedicated to seeing the dream of his mentor, Lincoln phys ed teacher, and AARCH founder, Bill Lee, come to fruition - an African-American heritage center in Frederick City.
In recognition of Black History Month the Maryland Room at the C. Burr Artz Public Library will be sharing selections from their Oral History Collections throughout the month that speak to civil rights and the African American experience in Frederick County.
