Thanks for the vid. Nice that you included the vid with sound of motor. That bike would be perfect for a rear hub with the nice steel dropouts.

No problem, happy to see someone appreciates it. I agree, rear hub would be good for these bikes. I remember being surprised how lightweight the bike was when I got it.

4:17 yes I have three questions. Do I have to use the electronic braking system that comes with the speed controller or can I just use the brakes that I have and put the kill switch in a reachable spot? Second question; would be, do I need to use the pedal sensor to turn off the connection to the motor, or will it put where on the motor or something if I don't use it? And then the last question; what is the tension bar do, do I absolutely need it on a solid front fork.

I built drones for a few years and studied how they waterproofed their ESC and I got a good feeling if you take your speed controller out of that aluminum housing and you paint the whole thing with clear fingernail polish( internals) and coat it to where it's thick it'll waterproof the internals on that the only other thing that you have to waterproof would be your wire connections were they snap together and cause moisture( balloons and zip ties maybe some hot glue) in there and cause them to Arc as far as the wires they're waterproof you can run a drone underwater if you seal it up.

Thanks for the video. Not many videos on front hub motor kits. How did the handling and steering work out? I plan on commuting and have to carry about 20 pounds of additional stuff for work, was thinking of getting a rack on the back for the extra weight. Do you think it makes sense to do a front hub motor to balance out the bike? Thanks for any additional information.
@chaseschannel11513 жыл бұрын
With my research a lot of people said go rear wheel. I chose front wheel for easy assembly hoping the handling was ok. After riding it the handling was perfectly fine. Never felt funny. Not sure why some people say don’t go front wheel, maybe they have more powerful motors and are going higher speeds. Not sure but I would build one just like it if I needed another. No complaints and the prices were cheap enough.
@johndcoffman3 жыл бұрын
@@chaseschannel1151 I have also converted some bikes (3) with front hub motors. In my judgment, it is more practical. My ebikes have steel front forks, so the strength of the front dropouts is the same as the rear dropouts. Putting additional weight on the back wheel stresses that wheel, often leading to hastened spoke and wheel failure of the rear wheel. (Even without an electric conversion, most of the weight of the bicycle and rider is borne by the rear wheel.) Adding an electric hub, battery pack, etc., can greatly increase the load on the rear wheel. A front hub conversion is simpler than a rear wheel or mid drive conversion. I suppose if you use the bike on mountain trails, dodging boulders and jumping branches/logs, etc., a front hub might affect agility. For me, riding around on streets and relatively sane surfaces, a front hub handles just fine. I love my front hub conversions.

How does the motor perform on hills?

@@SonnetGomes you know, there aren’t many hills in Florida so I honestly couldn’t tell you. I will say I was impressed for the price. It outperformed my expectations at the time. It comes with a pedal assist sensor but how does it work?

It does. I chose not to equip mine with it. Every time the pedal spins around and passes the magnet it will give some power. @@jher6969 yes PAS was included in the package and can be put on probably any bike. So long as there is a crank, sprocket and pedals. It basically works as one of the aftermarket speedometers works. Magnet and a sensor. Install magnet on crank and sensor on frame and every time the crank comes around and passes the sensor it sends signal to tell controller to give some power from the motor. The harder you pedal, (faster the magnet makes its rotation triggering the sensor) the more times the controller will tell the motor to apply power! Simple once you understand it.

Looks like a lot of things aren't installed correctly here. 1.) Why would you mount the battery like that? 2.) controller mounted the wrong way as well. 3.) No controller box or bag...
@chaseschannel11512 жыл бұрын
What makes it “correct” and not? Not every bike/build is the same. I didn’t want to drill more holes in the frame, this fit into existing water bottle holes. I can get the battery on & off as it is. With that being said, doesn’t leave many other places to mount controller. There is a small bag under the seat holding wires. The controller is outside staying cool from the breeze. It’s not ridden in wet conditions. Haven’t had any issues with it and probably thousands of miles
