Voivod - The Unkown Knows Bass Cover

What' up! I covered "The Unknown Knows" by the mighty Voivod! The bass tone and performance on this album are incredible! I wanted to try something new and used my Marshall 9001 tube pre-amp which is meant for guitars. I plugged it into the effects loop of my Darkglass Microtubes 900 v2, then ran it DI into my interface. I was really happy with the tone and I think it's super cool how useful the Microtubes can function as a killer DI box with an IR that mimics my Mesa Powerhouse 2x12. I also split my bass signal before the Marshall using my Tech 21 VT Bass DI so I could layer a dry DI in the mix. Blacky of Voivod mentioned using the Marshall 9001 and I've been having a lot of fun using it!

Timeless classic of a song. Very nice playing and very nice tone. I understood about half of your video description. Got two questions: 1. Did you time 4:34 by ear or did you have a visual aid? 2. I think you're overstretching the joint of your middle finger (at 4:47 for example). I do the same with my ring finger far too often. Are you fine with that for slower bass lines or do you usually try to avoid it?

Hey! Thank you! I actually dubbed a DIY count in for that part so I wouldn't need to rely on luck for coming in right on time (and throwing away a whole take if I don't). I never noticed the over stretching but looking at a still at 4:47 I can totally see it! It's never bothered me but I'm always making technique changes to avoid injuries down the line. I changed the technique I use for holding picks recently too. Always something to improve 😎 I'll pay attention to that going forward, good eye!
