Chris Squire "Tempus Fugit" or "On Silent Wings of Freedom" might be higher on the difficulty level. He sings lead with Trevor Horn on Tempus, and a prominent harmony on the chorus of Wings. I think the syncopation on those vocals is different from the bass rhythm. It takes all my focus to do vocals and bass on Stevie Ray's "Mary Had a Little Lamb;" the whole crowd could walk out and I wouldn't notice because I concentrate so hard on that one! Check out the baseline for Duran Duran's "Rio". Bet you didn't think of that one, but John Taylor was under appreciated.

Bruh they can make the entire list only consists of songs from Suffocation, Primus, and Cryptopsy alone. Their bass lines are pretty tough, but also fun to play

Suffo?! Nah dude. Cryptosy, I can’t even tell anymore, Flo makes and ruins the band for me lol😂

@@Xplora213 I have nothing to say about Flo, I mean he made some bad decisions along the way but the thing that irritates me the most is Lord Worm's departure. Cryptopsy peaked with him, and that's a fact that can't be changed

Philippino Ray has got to be up there, even though Les has so many good riffs. Playing that one in particular and singing at the same time is pretty incredible. Slap on Davie 👍

The fact that they included bass riffs with *pick* was very ILLEGAL

maybe that's why they are the hardest. Because you have to go and buy the pick

I'm not convinced YYZ is the hardest Rush bass line to play. Geddy said that The Anarchist is harder (although apparently that's because he has to sing at the same time in a different rhythm). Also, what about Malignant Narcissism (fretless!). Also most of the tracks on Power Windows have very intricate and quite fast bass lines (at times) - for example, Big Money around the 1:30 mark.

Overall a less abysmal list than a few years back, with some interesting surprises. Although YYZ being at #1 rubs me the wrong way because, being a Rush fan, I think it's one of the greatest and most technical Basslines on 4 strings, but it's certainly not close to being the hardest and it's not the first time WatchMojo has rated Rush the highest on their list. I'd have put YYZ in the #4 spot, personally.

I got into some 80s music and couldn't believe that some of the pop bands were actually really good musicians. So I'd like to throw a couple of songs into the mix that I'm pretty sure most people wouldn't acknowledge. "Rio" by Duran Duran (John Taylor), "Too Shy" by Kajagoogoo (Nick Beggs)

Non-Bassist can’t tell the difference for what’s hard and what it isn’t. It just sounds hard when it really isn’t.

Even if you dont play bass as long as you play a stringed instrument(especially guitar) you have a very good idea of whats hard and what isn't. But if you dont play any instrument I agree people usually are clueless as to what is difficult.

How would you rate the difficulty of Too Shy by Kajagoogoo? That to me was a whatever catchy 80's song iv heard and not paid much attention to before, but once somebody told me that there is a killer bass riff in that I listen to it in a whole different way. Now its on my play list and if you pump the bass up its a killer banger!

Nick Beggs is a monster. I loved his playing on that album, but lost track of him until I saw him playing bass for John Paul Jones (Zep) in 1995 opening for King Crimson. Recently he's been in Steve Wilson (Porcupine Tree)'s band. Seems like a real sweetheart, too.
