Snake's voice is still at its best. This song reminds me a lot the recent sounds of Target Earth. I still miss the old War and Pain sounds, those were great but they're always evolving themselves and that's awesome. Even if they have changed that much, they're still making great music. My fav bands for 6 years, so proud of it.

Tie together this old waste Flight cases and rolls of tape Connecting, returning home Chewing cups of styrofoam Template for shocking news Terminal of awful blues Moving lips, but there’s no sound Final call, and now you’re gone So far, mind blowing far So hard, heart breaking hard So hard, forced to understand A whole world has reached its end I’m fastened to reality A boarding pass for eternity In the desert lives a burning man There’s a probe about to land All my thoughts are taking off Above the clouds, where I get lost So far, mind blowing far So hard, heart breaking hard Sadness fumes Fuel perfume Mind excused Soul exhumed Spiral down Swirl around Without sound Leave the ground Fly forever Reach the never Life’s not over Be remembered We just keep on traveling Is it worth giving… So much in the after? So much on the future? We are made for riding Is it worth saving… So much to carry on? Too much for never more! …Never more! There’s no real destination In no time, it’s a new horizon The chemtrails across the sky Are guiding us all through the night At the counter of lost and found Touch the ground, deep and profound We have a friend, he passed away We’ll meet you there, we’ll go one day So far, mind blowing far So hard, heart breaking hard

The vibe of music/bands changes over the years. I mostly grew up with 90`s/early 00`s heavy rock and metal. Voivod has more of an oldschool vibe so i had to get used to them, now i love them. I am pretty sure there is still great new bands, i just have to discover them and get used to the sound.

Stunning. If it's Rocky on bass, I give kudos for maintaining the Blacky Blower Bass sound. It's a part of the Voivod legacy along with Chewy's amazing fusing of Piggy's trademark stylings. Long live Piggy and Voivod (and all the best to Blacky, great artist and Iron Gang father)

No one could wear Piggy's shoes better than Dan Mongrain did. Since he is in the band Voivod are back playing what they were at the prime in the late 80s. No wonder bands like Virus and Enslaved have Voivod as one of their influence. These guys were pioneers and invented avant garde metal way before its time

Fucking speechless after hearing this song. Oh, and blind too...but it is worth it. I must have played this about 20+ times already since Friday. It sounds as though its a sort of sequel to Killing Tech? Away said they are going to be in Prog-mode on the new album, and Im glad to hear that. Listen, I appreciate their thrash roots,just as much as the next person, but this style is what this band does best,and wouldnt ever want them to completely go back to playing pure thrash. Actually This band cant even be categorized. They play voivod music. Its a genre of its own.

The opening riffs sound closer to traditional heavy metal in terms of shape and the dissonant/"weird" aspect of their sound feels a bit downplayed (even at the 1:59 break it doesn't really feel as full on otherworldly as with their classic material or even the last album). Then it starts to trip out afterwards in a good way. I like this, seems like they're prioritizing more elongated compositions now with more ambiguous structure. Let's see if Mongrain can land a second home run with them. Title seems to be a reference to a robotic voice clip from "Killing Technology".
@GretgorPooper10 жыл бұрын
This is the most complex Voivod song since Jack Luminous, I reckon. It sounds really awesome.

at 3:55 you can listen to the words "WE ARE CONNECTED" from killing technology record. :D
@tylerreynolds153010 жыл бұрын
To be fair, Voivod had straight forward thrashy riffs on Killing Technology and even on Dimension Hatross. Chaosmongers and Technocratic Manipulators have a few riffs that are more straight ahead 'speed metal' for lack of a better term, than anything in this song. The rest of the songs obviously go off in other directions, but the first few riffs are very weird and Voivod, and has the same techniques they've always used. Dissonant double stops on the higher strings, playing augmented/diminished arpeggios with an ascending bass line, shifting a riff or melodic pattern to higher strings, etc. Not to nerd out but those riffs are pure Voivod through and through. I like it. It sounds like a fresh statement from Dan, as opposed to Target Earth which was a best of Voivod. I mean that in a good way, it's easily my most played album in the past few years.
@FunerealObsession10 жыл бұрын
Tyler Reynolds Oh yeah well KT was in essence a transition album from their rawer, punkier days to the weirder prog ones. I'd say on "Dimension Hatross" is when they started focusing less so the precision punchy rhythm playing on thrash (even if it does pop up on occasion) and more on spacey, jangly riffs and chord voicings that so many bands have picked up on now. I think the reason why they've bounced back so much better than 90% of all oldfart bands is due to Dan Mongrain having already been shown to be very capable in Martyr and a huge Voivod fan (which also showed in Martyr) with a distinct style that was like an improved Schuldiner IMO.
@GretgorPooper10 жыл бұрын
Dan is like Chuck meets Piggy meets, umm... many other great guitarists. I don't know, what I do know is that his work with Voivod is amazing. He is a worthy successor of Piggy, and I'm sure Piggy himself would be proud if he could hear Target Earth.

This should have been what came out after Nothingface instead of Angel Rat and Outer Limits.. Voivod is my favorite band but they were broken for a very long time. Mongrain seems to be taking them right where they needed to go. Blacky being back is also helping their sound. This is so easy to listen to, smooth, and dynamic. I really hope they keep heading down this road... it is the one they need to be on. In no way am I trying to put down Piggy or his guitar work, PLEASE don't read this comment in that light.

9 years later now, and they're still making this awesome new stuff with Dan. I can't get enough, sometimes. I had pretty much given up hope that I would hear this kind of Voivod during the Jason era. Not to put those albums down, but you know exactly what I mean. But their last three albums are more than I could have ever hoped for. Dan knows how Voivod should sound. His back up vocal harmonies are amazing too. He is a genius.
