I have the Echine version of this plane and in stabilized mode it is an awesome flyer. It handles a surprising amount of wind. Heading into the wind, I give it down elevator and more throttle and it blasts right through. And a hard turn downwind really picks up speed. It does not fly well at all without stabilization, however. I use it on the "low" stabilization setting so I get more climb and bank. I glued the prop on, and since I fly over fairly tall grass and hand launch with no landing gear, no prop problems.

Your review of this plane was timely. I just bought the 1s version of the Volantex P51 and wondered about a brushless motored version. Id say the smaller one flies just as well! Thanks for posting.

Would love to see you do a build using the motor, receiver, servos, etc from one of these little rtf jobs after it gets crashed to the point that it cannot be put back into the air. Maybe put the stuff into a stick and tissue balsa kit.

@@TimMcKay56 Thank you! Just had a further thought ... back in the late 50-3arly 60s when I was a kid there were a LOT of non-scale balsa kits, I recall Scientific as a brand. These were built from sheet balsa rather than sticks with low wings and open cockpits. When your Wen-Mac powered plastic U/C job couldn't be fixed any more, the parts from it went into these. Yesterday I went into a hobby shop near Atlanta ... and I didn't see ANYTHING that could cut, glued and painted into a flying model. Sadly, those days are gone forever.

Sorry to be off topic. In your vid, @9:10 there is a white, two-motored/4 bladed props something or other sitting on the picnic table. For a couple of years not I have been planning on a build of a UB14 Burnelli. This build will be a sheet-foam conversion of a paper display model and I need 2 motors/props engines of appropriate size for it and these things look like they might work. Do you know anything about that craft? I need to know who builds it and anything you can tell me about the motors. It would be great if they were available separately. Back in the 19and60's I grew up just a short walk away from the Aeromarine Factory where Burnelli did his design work and built a couple of his lifting-body a/c and I have been fascinated with his work ever since. BTW, I learned to drive in and round those old factory buildings and what was left of the old runways.

I just picked one of these up, slightly used but looks to be in great condition, i took it out for the first time yesterday and i absolutely couldn't control it in the air at all, not even on beginner mode, it was doing rolls and back flips? It shouldn't do that in beginner mode, but it did. Mine does the same thing in beginner mode, when i turn it on and tilt from side to side, it tries to correct itself, but when it's in the air, i barely got it to land without having a bad crash. I know these things can be hard to fly because I've watched a few videos where people who are way more experienced than myself were having trouble flying it, Any idea why it would even be able to do 360s while it's in safe mode? At this point I'm so afraid I'm gonna crash it, I'm thinking about just using it for display, but that kinda sucks honestly, i bought it to fly, i want to fly it. I'm just getting started with RC planes, I've got lots of RC cars, trucks, drones, even an RC tank that shoots bullets, Right now tho my favorite is my hobby zone apprentice stol, I've flown it maybe 6 times (that's the extent of my RC flying experience) it's so easy to fly, maybe I'm expecting this Mustang to fly that way and setting myself up for failure?? Man i wanna fly this little Mustang

I wish I could offer some help or insight on this. I did fly mine in the Beginner mode and it flew OK. Many contact the seller and seek a replacement?

@@TimMcKay56 I got it off of one of those online bidding sites, I've actually gotten quite a few RCs off there, I won my Apprentice Stol off there for $94 total after taxes and fees, it was basically brand new, I just got back home from flying it at the local park here, super easy to fly but I couldn't control this little Mustang at all not even in beginner mode with the safe stuff engaged. The bidding site I use gets most of their items from returns at Amazon, so this particular P51 was sent back by the original owner, I'm thinking maybe it's just a lemon and that's why it was sent back to begin with. Honestly I'm thinking about maybe using the parts off of it to try my hand and making my own RC plane from scratch, and just keeping the Mustang body to hang up for display, only paid like $20 for it so no worries really. Thanks for the reply back

Problem is, this company and most all of the other off brand model companies are using EPO foram for the durability, problem is EPO foam is wayyyy too heavy for these micro sized models. Thank Goodness Horizon enginners are smart enough to use EPS foam for their ulta micro models, as that is a large reason they fly so well. The actual wing loading for the models are correct. They build them to fly well. If you build a model to crash, in most cases it will be a dog in the air, and the wing loading will be too high. Yes, it will fly, but will it fly really well? This model to me, looks way too heavy for what it is.

Instead of trying to pedal these views on a video about a small plane that is designed for normal "Noobs" who are pretty well guaranteed to slam their first toy into Terror Firmer the first time out, you might better employ your time in berating the bean counters at Horizon for committing the absolute heresy (in your eyes) of selling planes like the UMX Ultrix/Ultrix600/Aeroscout/or the recent re-branded TopRC offerings of the P-51 and X-Cub. Anybody would think that they are suffering under the delusion that their market might be going the way of the American Auto Industry. There is nothing wrong with EPS planes - for their target audience, namely "Experts" who know everything about flying/have been doing it for 110years/who never have and never will crash! For us normal Bozos they are best left in their rightful place - on the shop shelf behind their inflated price tags.

I've flown a lot of these type of models. I did not even notice anything off or a bit heavy with this model. Tight control connections, no gap in hinges, everything securely mounted. Motor provides lots of power and the gyro system works like a charm. I do think a beginner, after a few flights with a trainer, would be satisfied with this model. No complaints, really, from me. 😁
