I do get the pure fun you can get out of sampling the Volca, but do not forget the power of this little box with its motion sequencing and live performance joy. I am 100% lusting for a Deluge for a year now, but I wanted to protect the Volca a bit hahaha.

I totally agree, it's great, too, but in a different way :) Thanks for watching

Hey Simon great video. If you change the Mode of Sample 1 to "Once" instead of "Cut" you won't need to increase the Release of the envelope. That setting will ensure the entire sample is played no matter the length of the note.

Amazing, thanks I didn't know! :)

Kul! First I though, maybe I should get a Volca Drum, but then I realised I rather do the same thing with my Hydrasynth and get some sound design practice on the thing I own. Inspriering!

Great video, I have a volka drum in the box, may get it out one day and sample. About sidechain - afaik, "send" is specific to the selected pad, so usually you would want to send in a kick drum.

That's a great clarification, thanks! Yeah, it's fun, a lot of interesting sounds and the Wave Guide is excellent for creating movement in the sounds

Made a movie in my head. Initially it’s a guy in a power suit, striding confidently down a busy hallway when the drop and his foot goes right through the floor and then continue to fall into infinity as all sorts of different dimensions pass by until he sinks into the deep dark gray

I agree that the Volca Drum plus an external sequencer is the way to go. For me, I love the Elektron Model:Samples for this, as the 6 tracks perfectly match the 6 tracks on the Volca Drum. Plus I can layer a sample on top of each synth sound if desired. I've also enjoyed using the Volca Drum to create one-shot samples that I sample into the Blackbox.

Nice, that sounds like a really cool setup, too! Thanks for watching

I enjoyed this, and use my Deluge similarly with various small synths (inc. Volca Drum). Just FYI (re 5:43), the two layers of the Volca Drum parts are simply summed; they don't affect or modulate each other (no "some sort of FM operation going on"). p.s. When you added a side-chain send, the 'Tom' track was selected, so that will be driving the side-chain rather than the 'Kick' channel. I enjoyed the music that you made!

@@simon_jakobsson Felt pedantic (of me), but you taught me a thing or two, and I hope we can all learn from each other!

I just put my volca drum on gumtree today, maybe it's time to keep it for a bit longer? I hooked it up to the Deluge via midi and it's a bit of a pain because each part (drum sound) takes up its own midi channel. This has its benefits in that I can use FX and mutes on a per instrument basis but it does make sequencing a bit more cumbersome as I need to create 6 midi tracks on the Deluge to write out parts. OK, now to watch your video about it 😅
@simon_jakobsson Жыл бұрын
Lol you can set the Korg Drum up so all the sounds are on the same midi channel! I'd also recommend sampling it like I do in the video :)
@GuidoGautsch Жыл бұрын
@Simon Jakobsson ah, cool. I've set it up over 6 channels to use it with the Ableton Live volca drum editor so I can play it and adjust its parameters with Push. That does make it more useful for that workflow, but I basically never seem to use it that way. So yeah, maybe I'll just spend a day sampling it and then send it on its merry way. Fantastic video btw, I like your style a lot - subbed!
