How the German Brutal Satire reactions started - My friends in London always say Germans have no humour so they wondered why I check out German content and frequent Germany on holidays so I decided to check out German comedy and was introduced to German satire by my followers.
I was so confused by the Satires, didn't know if I should laugh or what because of the intensity and seriousness of the issues being presented. The brutal nature of the truth being presented "pop and plain, straight in your face with a bit of humour" made me coin the phrase "German Brutal Satire".
Surprisingly other youtubers followed suit!

Not only killed but misunderstood. That's a real kind of danger. But it's still good however people watch Volker Pispers because it's really some have to watch. Some germans believe he would be talking uniformed bullsh** about the USA, but actually they are the uninformed, which gives always a pretty cold chill to my bones. Cuz it shows some very deep hailing to the USA without common sense. But anyway, I just wanted to clear that out. Maybe I am a German after all even that I don't see myself as one. ^^ Well, actually I am a Rheinländer so "from Rhein area" where a critical view might be nothing special. Who knows. But since I learned history in school I fear my germans just like the rest of all humanity because it looks like just a little bit of madness happening to them makes all humans except for...some exceptions of course, will fall for insanity and just start to kill each other again. It's really not psychological fear but it's something I simply cannot forget although I am not controlled by it. And the sad thing is it's not even a German thing as I tried to make clear here. It's happening all over the world. Again and again. And me personally I found a few sources to cause this madness. And it's a destructive environment accompanied along with a selective money-caused culture but also at some places ideology-caused culture. And here we are... did you ever realized that democracy is more and more defended with the tools of autocracy? It'd weird because it's so paradox. Especially if you think of the fact that we certainly stopped evolving our societies worldwide and try to make the best out of money and democracy because we simply fear too much a new autocracy or monarchy etc? How's that possible? Don't we see ad a whole society that we have to think all new instead of all old and start to think outside the box? And when people like me and some others actually do that because they are eccentric, they are called idiots etc and that is impossible to change the world? How sick is that you think? I'd say totally sick minded. So you see there is a bigger problem that lies way deeper than everything we addressed so far and will address today. But we keep on going to defend and build up a system everyday all-day that's having an never ending impending doom with it, always?! How should people ever evolve out of this sadness and madness if things like cancel culture or people who live in the past which is super toxic, exactly like the ones trying to live in the future and want it all now so they pay loads of money to realize it and rise the discrepancy of social evolution and technological (r)evolution which does making people fear machines and all that. I tell you it's the money. It's the only thing that all problems I've seen so far in my live and those I've personally struggled with...have in common. They actually do have money in common. Nothing else is constantly that in terms of "causing problems"... And all we've got to say that's wrong, is..."there is no other way possible".... REALLY? Gosh, sorry but all that stuff gets me going for real! Cheers

There was an edit war back then on the German Wikipedia, because some pranksters added "Xerox" somewhere between all those first names, editors edited that out, and ten minutes later, the "Xerox" appeared elsewhere between his names. It lead to a general edit ban on his entry for several days. However, I still remember him as "Xerox zu Guttenberg". If you search for that on the internet, you will still find some funny news from 2011. There was a (fake) keyboard on offer back then which only contained the keys Ctrl, A, C, and V, the space bar, and the return key. It wouldn't have been that bad for him if he hadn't insisted so long that his doctorate was legit, but he came up with lame excuses. Had he come up with "yes, I made a mistake, I was sloppy with my thesis, I'll return my title", his political career in Germany wouldn't have been so badly damaged.

You're on such a sophisticated level with your program - but each sentence is so PACKED with sarcasm that I'd guess you have no fair chance (e.g. legend of "Baron Münchhausen" who's story became known as the "Lying Baron"). If you know a German, you should seriously benefit if you ask him to go through a clip with you and explain the references in detail. Another example ("exaggerated" was your comment): He speaks about a official news reporter explaining that "80% of trains were late - in some cities even every second train" and basically refers to our education with that (the joke is "hidden", there's no exaggeration). Greatest respect for taking the challenge, but Pispers cabaret wasn't even understood by most native speakers unless on a high educational and intellectual level. But no worries: The other way round, despite English being much easier in language structure, we Germans have a very hard time understanding jokes about your lesser famous political figures.

Let me push out one more alright? See, the thing is even pispers didn't go further then media democracy which I also thought is a major cause to all that madness. But it's not the end yet. You'll have to dive deeper to understand what's going on. As I said money is the main cause for all problemsthat aren't caused by ideology. And Media shares a bit of both. Some media's are fanatics so they just take an opportunity called money to make their business. But what's with the all-day everyday media dictating the politics or topics of the politics each day? It's money of course! Guys look... The Media is always basically lurking for money. They HAVE TO make money in order to stay a healthy business, right? Nonetheless if it's sickening to the society... But in order to keep up the business they find trends, and stories that get us going. That's why it's most of the time negative media. Negativity...or let's say frustrations and unsatisfactory gets us going because it's always louder then the opposite, isn't it? Did you ever hear anyone complaining about or yell about anything that went to your a person's favor? I guess not. So why would they even think about yelling or at least speaking up if they are not affected by it? You see, so the media is finding all the events that makes us buying their magazines and newspapers or watch their TV channels or visit their websites. Just because of money and the same mechanism of monetary driven economys cultures and societies is making it ultra selective. That's not a good thing actually. When art for example has become super selective in Hollywood for example it started to get more n more woke. No its not only that. Even the trends before were wet by making money. Producers and investors etc decide what will be produced in the first place. Because...of course...its their money and their risk. So how could possibly come a revolution of maybe not any longer using force in movies like weaponry? I mean sure it gives good actions, but it's also give children even we have institutions to say it's not childproof or whatsoever...it still gets to children. Haha I love Pispers - but I guess it is too complicated for foreigners. For the language, but also for the many national and internal references as well as puns around it people from abroad will not understand. This video especially was hard in that perspective - and also got a bad translation, sometimes very word by word, so the sense got lost. But cool you tried it out. Pispers uses a lot of irony and sarcasm. So he is funny somehow, but sometimes also just presents facts and challenges your opinion about those facts by putting them into perspective by comparisons or funny exaggerations. His programmes were usually about internal politics and critical of capitalism. So most parts are not so well understandable for people from abroad who do not know the German specific debates or backgrounds. But sometimes he got passages in its programme about international topics, that might be easier for you. And here also the translation is better. Watch out for this video back from 2004 or 2005 when he criticised the American invasion of Iraq. Oh, there is a great mistake in translation, 04:27 He talked about Schäuble, which is nicknamed "Old Schwurhand". This is an allusion to a western hero that a German author named Karl May came up with in 1894. His name was "Old Surehand" which sounds very similar. But translation misunderstood it and made the word "schwul" out of it, which means gay. So this word completely senseless in this translation. Only wanted you to know @der Einzige - ShadyShae

Wow, these subtitles were really bad in many cases, with completely unmatching translations in many parts. So, no wonder many of the jokes were lost on you (plus, as others already mentioned, Volker Pispers used the german language in a very sharp and elegant way, with a pun around every corner that only works in german). Here are some things I can add to clarify some of the content: That guy he mentioned in the beginning with the geled hair was not Helmut Kohl (as you guessed) but Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg. Google him for details, but in general: he was a young aspiring (and popular) politician with a lot of gel in his hair, who had to step back from his plan to become chancellor of Germany because of legal problems. Another example for the suboptimal translation: at 5:07 the subtitle reads "one is already everything from yesterday" - that's not even a sentence, be it german or englisch, that's just wordsalad (or a lesson from a wise zen master, maybe). What Pispers really said here is "Guttenberg is ja inzwischen alles (Schnee) von gestern" - Guttenberg: see above. Inzwischen: by now. Schnee von gestern: yesterdays snow aka "water under the bridge". These mistakes and mistranslations are all over the place in this clip, which is a shame, because a genius like Pispers deserves better.

I've seen about 3-4 videos now of Volker Pispers's performances and he reminds me of a German version of George Carlin. Modern comedians get "cancelled", or as I like to say "criticized", for making tasteless jokes about marginalized communities. On a 1990 appearance with Larry King, Carlin talks about a contemporary comedian named Andrew Dice Clay, "his targets are underdogs, and comedy has traditionally picked on people in power. [People] who abuse their power. Women and gays and immigrants are, to my way of thinking, underdogs." Carlin always punched up in the sense that he criticized unjust institutions that have created the problems we deal with to this day. Things like capitalism, government corruption and religion. If Carlin was still performing today, I think he'd be more popular than ever with the socio-political climate we live in. The same is probably true of Volker Pispers.
