I started my working life at dinky(meccano) in binns Road, Liverpool. In May 79. They closed November that year for the final time, it was a sad day ....the quality of some of the toys was exceptional....have a good collection myself.... This is a great video...thank you.

Very good restoration. I had one of these VW fastbacks. I bought it at OK bazaars in Port Elizabeth in the late 60's I think it was. It loose some paint during the years and run into a man that restore model cars at the PW Botha College annual car and model cars show in George, Western Province South Africa. He had done a wonderful job. Unfortunately my VW get lost in later years. Is it possible to buy one somewhere?

A car with memories for me going back to the 1970s! My father did not have the 1600 TL, but the slightly different 1600 L ("Ponton") model. It was in this typical 1970s light yellow brown colour. But I've also seen TL cars driving around. Thanks for this video!

Your restorations always make me curious, because you tend to work on cars that seem to be "too far gone" to save, making it so more satisfying to see how you solve the tasks so excellently. You're right, that not all models have license plates. Mine is in one of the plastic top boxes, so a late one, and doesn't have plates, so maybe Dinky simply ran out of the German plates near the end and didn't bother to print new stocks, since not many of their models used German plates anyway.

That was by far the most home diecast video I’ve seen yet some of the custom videos are out of hand, but this restoration was just detailed, and it is somehow covered every single thing that was wrong with yourself, but making the wheels and what not I do customs but nothing like that. Wow! There are some quite different skill sets being applied here. Making your own parts, in miniature no less, is one of them. Knowing which plastics to use, the strengths and tolerances to be cut, filed, sanded and painted is certainly knowledge that would come in very handy in a restoration like this. The only thing is you definitely should have sanded and polished it in the end, to remove the little imperfections which are quite prominent. Good job 🙂.

My brother and I were shipped off to the annual Vancouver car show for a few years - to get out of our parents' hair on a Saturday as much as anything else! We'd come back with a stack of flashy handouts and discuss what car we wanted, based on price and appeal. Keeping in mind that minimum wage (once we reached 16) was $1.50 back then, even a Volks 1600 wasn't going to happen any time before the cars would be beaters on the used car lot! @@PaulRestorer

The car was fantastic - the 1600, & in our car, the fuel injection made these a brilliant road car. Would have loved to see you recreate the engine - but that is just being picky. Well done!

Amazed how you get so much done with your dremel. I’ve never really got on with mine: it jumps about all over the place and the heads keep snapping or breaking. It’s a cheap house brand one bought at a chain store for about €25.
