Can you post link to that crank case plate? I would like to get one as well. If you could recommend a filter for that fitting to that would be great!

With how pretty that engine is looking, have you heard of Zealous beauty washers? They would make this engine pop even more 😁.
@MysteryGarage3 жыл бұрын
Yes i have and they are pretty cool for sure, however i have a feeling once i mount those carbs they will without question "steal the show" and people wont even realize ive even painted the block lol! Thanks so much! Cheers!

I don't know if you mentioned it, but you want the piston ring end gaps, to NOT line up together. Pretend the piston is a clock, you want ring one end gap at 3 o'clock, ring 2 at 7 o'clock, and oil ring at 11 o'clock. Just cut them into 3rds, so no ring gaps line up.
@MysteryGarage3 жыл бұрын
You are right i didn't talk about that either lol! Great stuff, but yes i did do that i just hesitated on discussing some of the finer details on film not to make it far to technical but somewhere in the middle. Ill leave the very tech engine building videos to the professionals, I'm just a garage warrior having fun on a budget for viewers entertainment lol!! Love the comments, thanks so much! You can also use a 1.8 16v head for better compression✌🏼
@MysteryGarage3 жыл бұрын
absolutely, mine even might already be, i haven't spent to much time with the head quite yet. Ill be able to tell more when i get it back from the machine shop! Cheers

Great episode! Love how you’re becoming more and more confident with the format so it really shows what a great engine builder you are👍🏼 You should invest in a Gimbal for your camera so your b-rolls would get even smoother🙏🏼 Super exited to see where this channel will end up😃

Thank you so much! Ya i got a gimbal a while back, still getting used to it, but at the same time looking into other filming aids to improve my product. I really appreciate the feedback, and thanks so much for the comments! Cheers!!

What was the final compression ratio? My ABA is 11.6:1, wondering what this engine is as I’m putting together an ABA/16v for my MK3

Mystery I got a question, you make me want to refresh my engine I got 2.0 9A what brand of piston you recommend for just a stock refresh... what brand on engine parts would be good and would stay on the budget?
@juddfyah2 жыл бұрын
Hey what’s the part number on the tray that attaches to the ABA pick up tube?
@franknam13 жыл бұрын
This is awesome! Thanks for the attention to detail. So, really those abf pistons would be a nice improvement to a 2.0 refresh in general? With that higher compression do you need to run a higher octane?
@MysteryGarage3 жыл бұрын
Oh ya, high compression needs better fuel otherwise it will ping and send the knock sensors on a friendzy. but that's to be expected, higher the compression the better the suggestion of fuel quality!! Thanks for the comments, appreciate the support! Cheers

In your experience do you need to replace the IM shaft bearing in the block? How do you confirm if it is good or in need of replacement?
@MysteryGarage3 жыл бұрын
To be honest, i havent had an issue where ive had too. load on them is super low to basically nothing, so wear is usually minimal at best. If i was doing a FULL rebuild, block machining etc... i would probably just replace them, just because, but otherwise i just inspect the shaft on the bearing surfaces, and if i ever see anything at that point i would investigate further otherwise i oil them up and carry on. Cheers!!

I was wondering if you have a mk3 NON a/c accessories braket that you can sell me? I need it to mount my alternator lower to make room for the carbs. I use PayPal in case you have one for sale, thanks!

@@MysteryGarage yes! The 8v mk3 non a/c bracket! I’m running a mk2 9a engine, but with a single accessories belt conversion from a mk3!
