This car is appears to be for people who grow up and become fully fledged adults , that is to say looking cool in a suv is no longer an issue for them. That's probably why you don't see many of them on the road.

Bought mine a week ago, 1.6tdi. Great car, does 56mpg in heavy traffic in city (eco mode) What’s not to like :)

You forgot to mention that the rear seats can be moved, giving either more legroom or more luggage space.

the Golf SV and formerly the Golf Plus are excellent cars with bags of practicality, but, as you allude to at the end, they're not "sexy" SUVs!

Ticks a multitude of boxes in the sensible category, but one box it definitely does not tick is the one marked; exciting. But hey you can't have it all. Oh wait a minute I forgot about the Merc B class. Now there's a car, sorry, sporty van. No? Yes? Hmmmmm. Nevertheless this Golf SV is one seriously good car as you have most definitely demonstrated with aplomb. Great review.

three cylinder turbocharged, same as the eco boost by ford. The ford engine won several awards, A workmate has a focus with the little engine and he loves it.

Used to think VW styling was reserved but classy but now it just seems boring with little evolution over the past few generations. You're hard pressed to differentiate between generations of a Golf or Polo these days. All of VW's offerings should be renamed "box". This is the tall family hatchback box.

You've sold out all of your brands to Germans, French, Chinese manufacturers. Starting from scratch and competing with established companies with the technologies you can't use anymore... Good luck with that one. Besides, how MG or Rover was doing against its world's competitors? Not so great if they had to be sold out. Now, Brexshiteers go full blast 'patriotic' buying Minis with the 'Union Jack' incorporated in the rear lights LOL not realising it is a BMW underneath and a German car.

WTF has the worldwide business woes of the UK car industry got to do with someone preferring a lighter-coloured trim in his Golf? 🤔 BTW, *nobody* buys a car just for the brake lights, *everybody* knows MINI is a *corporate brand name* like SEAT, Skoda, Bentley, Lamborghini etc, and sales figures have been consistent for 20 years, long before Brexit (and still selling half the amount of it's American, German & Japanese equivalents) *Nobody* is "going full blast patriotic" on car purchases just as *nobody* went "full blast anti-British" after the first referendum in 1975! 😲 Almost *nobody* cares about politics when choosing a car FFS, and even for the few that pretend to, it's lower on the list than cupholders 😜
