In this video I show you the exterior, interior, menus, a 0 to 100 kph launch and some fun hidden features of the 2022 Volkswagen ID.4 GTX!

For now, the GTX is the most powerful version of the ID4, with 2 electric motors and 299 horsepower for the 4 wheels.
And something that struck me immediately when I went to pick up this car is how big it actually is, it's a real SUV size car, comparable to a VW Tiguan.
EXTERIOR

The color of our car is a fairly neutral "Scale Silver Metallic" with a contrasting black roof.
At the front we find a long LED line across the entire width, which connects the brilliant light blocks with their LED DRL’s. The front end has a very clean and futuristic look to it with no large openings or grilles.
On the side, we see the nicely integrated and illuminated door handles and the huge 21-inch rims. Only by a label in front of the front door, you know it's a GTX.
At the back then, we find LED blocks with several illuminating little light panels that remind me very much of the blocks from the previous BMW M4 CS.
Again, these 2 light blocks are connected by a narrow LED line across the full width. And we also get to see a nice start-up animation of the taillights when we open the car.
INTERIOR

Inside it feels very spacious, we no longer have a transmission tunnel taking up space and in the rear, the floor is nicely flat.
Between the front seats we have this convenient free standing center console with smartphone tray for wireless charging and wireless CarPlay.
The spacious feeling is further enhanced by the impressive glass roof, which runs practically over the entire length and width - in one piece!
In the center, we find a gigantic touchscreen where you can dig deep into all kinds of menus and settings. Very occasionally there is a delay after a swipe input, but eventually the command is always executed.
A lot of the interfaces look familiar if you have driven other recent Volkswagens, like for example the color settings.
The same goes for the drive modes, only here you can find an extra mode 'Traction' which permanently activates the front motor, so that you have a real 4WD system at your disposal in circumstances with less grip.
A little thing that I hadn’t seen before is the customisable home button. You can choose for the VW logo, but also for just about any flag in the world, because this car will be sold globally, nice!
In front of us we notice that there is almost no dashboard left, a very basic display behind the steering wheel, that's all.
But this is compensated by the interactive LED line against the windshield and the HUD with Augmented Reality directions projected onto the road.
As a result, the cockpit interface no longer ends at the dashboard, but is stretched out in depth, as it were, even outward.
First element is the little screen on your steering wheel, behind that the LED strip that gives you direction. Then outside, right in front of you, there’s your driving data in the HUD and behind that even, projected far down the road, the augmented reality elements.
It works really well together and I am a big fan, this just smells like the future!
DRIVING

The GTX is heavy. Just like the other ID4s. But it is a lot faster to the 100 km/h.
It needs just 6.2 seconds, where the Pro Performance version needs 8.5 seconds. So quite a big difference.
It is still no rocket, but it is just a lot more lively to drive, the throttle response is more direct, it can handle bad roads or sand and gravel, and the GTX has a higher top speed, 180 km/h instead of 160 km/h.
It shares its 77 kWh battery with the ID4 Pro and 1st edition, and the GTX can travel 480 km on it, according to WLTP standards.
Charging is possible in three phases AC up to 11 kW or DC fast charging up to 125 kW.

You probably know this, but just to make sure... Charge to 100% only when you go on long trips. For everyday comute, try to charge only to 80% or 90%. Lithium batteries don't like to be charged to 100% or drop below 10%. It will degrade faster over time.

I’m in the US and I have one pretty much like this but without the HUD and GTX accents. It’s just called Pro S AWD and you can get it in different colors, mine is Kings Red. Same performance though. Loving it!

Couple of months ago I took a taxi from airport and it was a ID.4 and I was really surprised how quiet it was and comfy. On the way back to airport I got an tesla 3.. That was an awful experience, not only because it was so small (there were 4 people both ways). VW really surprised me positively with good build quality and noise suppression.

That's nice! I love Teslas too, and also the perfomenced VW ID.4 GTX which powers with 299 hp in 4WD! I also love Xpeng, but do you like-- OH yeah, I remember the LED strip with the navigation system.

Except everything is made of hard plastic on the inside…. Also the infotainment is something from 2002 or something. But it’s a cute car :)

@@stefanrustenburg4697 I didn't have that feeling at all in the 2022 GTX. Interior looked lovely (alcantara look, leather look door panels with contrast stitching) and infotainment was ok. Dashboard had a little GameBoy feeling to it, but it is combined with the interactive LED directions and the HUD with augmented reality, so that makes it very cool again!

I've seen other ID.4 with lesser interiors, but the one in this GTX really wasn't that bad!

I know of one instance where a car barely few months old blew one of the motors. The dealership is saying they do not have spares and is offering a regular gasoline vehicle as a replacement till they fix the ID4 in a few months. Something to know for people who are considering buying an ID4

This particular one has a larger wheel option than most full-size SUVs. Looks great but reduces the maximum range. I think 19" is big enough.

I like it with 2 big exceptions: 1.) the dash controls and swipe interfaces, and the 2 window buttons. 2.) the blue interior accents are not cool. Audi version fixes all these. But, that’s too bad. I like both exteriors just fine

the technology, battery types and infotainment are outdated throughout the VW concert. the only thing vw can do is make a nice car. but all that you can not see is obsolete.

300 CV para ir de 0 a 50 km/h realmente rápido... Lo sé, es el mismo problema aquí. Las carreteras por las que se podía circular a 90 km/h son ahora de 70 o incluso 50 km/h. 😑

Ich fahre zur Zeit einen Passat GTE und wollte demnächst nach der Installation einer Elli Wallbox auf einen Etron umsteigen!Nach Verhandlung mit meinem Stromanbieter werde ich die Wallbox wieder zurückbauen! Im Moment zahle ich 31,65 Cent pro KW. Der Ökostrom soll 65 Cent kosten. Da kaufe ich mir lieber einen 6 Zylinder Diesel!!!!!

This car is beautiful , but … 40000 € It,s high price for me and not much space for my 3 dogs ! Renault Grand Scenic with a consumption of 4.7-5.1 per 100 km, with the possibility of refueling the tank in minutes and the cost of 20,000 € (for a 2-year-old, I took it from a rental company)

I love my ID4 GTX. Got all the extras EXCEPT the dynamic chassi. Never found a need for it. With this car I go hunting (4WD with traction in the woods, and a basket at the back of the car for animal towing.) and other than that, my everyday rides etc. I will never go 480 km with this, probably closer to 370 the way I drive. But I absolutely love it. Now, cons - Sluggish display (Which is universal for 95% of all cars). The touch buttons at the display are invisible at night. Rear camera is not protected under the VW emblem, meaning it gets dirty. (My old T-roc had it that way, was never dirty as an result). Voice control is not that great, so I don't use it. I use android voice, but cannot control my car with it. Just music and my normal apps. Am I happy with my purchase? Yes. I knew about these things beforehand and I don't care that much honestly. Got 19'' on my winter tyres, and 21'' on summer. The biggest pros of this cars are as follows: The augmented reality nav, never miss an exit on the freeway. The chairs are lovely with the armrest I miss from the old VW Transporter days, and the massage option. Love it. The Size of the interior is amazing. You can go at 180, when it feels like 100. The car behaves like a god on the road. Not a racing car, but a really nice sporty version of a family car. The view from this car is great. Big window, with ability to see even in front of the side mirrors - Which normally is covered in plastic, but here it is glass. 9.0/1.0 is my score. If they would have had buttons that lit up when you did a hand gesture, rear camera that was protected and a tablet that did not feel sluggish at all - it would have been a perfect 10. I do not care at all about not having 4 buttons for the windows. A non issue. However, I do like that I can control all 4 windows with just 1 button when venting etc.

Interesting, my Enyaq is also 4WD, but doesn't have the traction mode. Not that you'd miss it in everyday driving, and it will increase energy consumption.

The Enyaq is from the same family, guess they share some parts and tech. But indeed the specs differ between Enyaq, Q4 etron and ID.4.

Very nice, looking at the ID4 now Although I don’t think the GTX is available in the US. I like the HUD and other features just wish the charging was a little faster & the range a little longer. But definitely 1st on my list currently.

Thanks! I use a GoPro 9 for most of the video, for exterior driving shots a GoPro 7 and for some beauty shots a Canon C200. But most videos are just the GoPro 9 :).

it shows a light icon on the dash. And at night you can look through the window to see if the lights are on :)

1st, thank you for the video. This car is too slow for a GTX. Should be 0-100 in 3-4secs! The interior is lovely. Slower charging than a Kia and Model 3. No auto door releases for the hood and trunk? Someone please build a model 3 killer!! Maybe an Audi E3 version will be better or an ID.4 R-model?

It depends on the charger. At max speed you should be able to fill it up to 80% in about 20 minutes I guess.

A traseira do ID4 é bastante similar à traseira do Peugeot 3008. The rear of the ID4 is very similar to the rear of the Peugeot 3008.

This BEV is 55000 euro without options, if you add the options that every modern (EV) car should have (heated seats, heat pump, lane assist, quality nav) the car sits at 65000 euro. Not really competitively priced I would argue.

The Audi Q4 e-tron with comparable options is about 5k more expensive. Seems they are positioning VW somewhat higher compared to the premium brands and slightly higher than most Asian brands. Pricing seems on the high side idd.

Good question, I am not sure. But my guess is there are less people interested in a car that is slow and economical than there are in a car that is faster than the combustion engine model they owned before. Next generation of EV’s will have more variation as the market matures. Just my guess :).

Who pays 0.9€ per kWh? Just looked CCS 150 kW charging cost 0.27€ per kWh and if i charge home ( no car yet) it would cost 0.15 per kWh.

@@rudyroedling188 I was in the wrong comment section Rudy, my bad. The Citroen AMI is 7200, this one indeed is about 60k! But our test car had a lot of options, you can have an ID4 GTX from €55,000 I guess.
