Good job again Nobby. In your opinion, is the €13k difference between 1st and 1st Max editions warranted? What is the one standout feature between the two?
@NobbyOnCars3 жыл бұрын
For me, the sweet spot would be the ID4 1st at 43k but equally the entry one for those not bothered by extras is good value. I loved the HUD, haven't seen anything as detailed before and I owner a 6 series with a HUD before. Can't say this is in stone as Irish specs may different but this goes into huge detail of the comparisons. www.evspecifications.com/en/comparison/2f231448

Don in Dallas here. Excellent presentation Style. This is one of the easiest reviews to sit through. My cars are a 2015 Passat TDI and a 2014 Nissan Leaf. It's time for more range. I've had my eyes on a Tesla Model 3 until covid-19 stole my income. But the Tesla is really too tiny on the inside. I'm a musician and I have equipment to move. Some of it will not fit in the model 3 without the hatchback. I've considered the Kia e Niro but the dealers are few and far between. Now Volkswagen comes out with an excellent addition. When I saw the first 2 reviews I was sold on this car. Your comments were much like everyone else, pointing out the good things and the bad things. But if you've owned an electric vehicle, you know the bad things already. Now I have to decide if I want to spend more money for the extras or if I would be satisfied with the base model. After all, I'm driving a Nissan Leaf which has few extras. But it's also the most fun car I've ever owned and the smallest. Thanks again for your good reviews. I have subscribed because of this one and your excellent style of presentation.

Thanks Don. I hope the industry you are relying on gets back on its feet soon & you get the support you need. I was a club DJ for years so I understand the lack of gigs from your point of view! Good bit bigger than a Leaf but with the seats down, the Leaf ain't bad for a bit of gear either.

Great review as always -good to hear journalists talk about a car rather than deliver a script. Looks like a beautiful car and I could be sold on this EV. Any of the others I've seen seem to be very uninspiring and without character. Still 36k is an awful lot of money and I don,t think I'd forgive myself when I would inevitably find myself some where low on charge and nowhere to charge. Without the infrastructure is it not still a bit of a gamble?

Particularly with the 77kWh battery, once you leave destination A with a full battery, there really is little places you’ll be driving to that require a stop. 330-340kms is the absolute worst you’ll see from it. A minor enough increase in air temp and that’ll be 400kms minimum. I’ve a home charger and honestly, the anxiety leaves after a few days. Thanks for watching!

Really great review. I'll pop for an ID.3 (the 4 is too large for just the two of us) but you should consider retesting the lower-end battery sizes for the ID3 when it's available. It's likely to have the most-popular battery size and will have debugged software, and possibly other mechanical improvements (braking, for instance). The ID.3 deserves a final production review.

Also own an older Alltrack that we want to change this summer so the ID.4 might be an option later on when it arrives here in Canada. Seems like an option if the “real” autonomy allows for over 300 km. To be seen. But oh gâwd! Why, oh why that move away from real mechanical buttons. It’s so much more easier -and safer- to drive when one doesn’t have to look at the commands and keep looking forward. Anyway, thx.

I think around 300kms is an educated guess for very cold temps. Obviously Montreal is colder than Dublin but I don't feel you'll see less than 300. The RWD setup is still only 200bhp so I think it will be no worse than any BMW that doesn't fall into high powered category.

I'm wondering about your opinion on which would be better, spending the 36/37 K on the ID3 style/family with it's extras or the 36K on the base model ID4? Just to note 80% of my driving will be my 160Km round trip work commute on my own..
@NobbyOnCars3 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you don't need the space then... Get the ID.3 with the extra bits!

Just came across your channel...great stuff. This car looks superb....I think much better than the id3. Extremely quiet even with the extremely bad weather you were getting. How many miles would you get on a full charge (for those that live in Northern Ireland were we work in miles?) great review....have subscribed to your channel

Anywhere between 325-450kms I’d say at a guess - 200 miles minimum

I’ll give you a better estimate this week as I’ll be taking an ID3 for a long term review with same battery and it’s set to be freezing but I’ve another ID3 review already which covers range albeit not as cold when I filmed it

Great review on theVW ID4, any chance of getting your hands on the Nissan Ariya? How do these cars compare in size to a Honda CRV? I have an old one, reliable but has always been noisy as hell, road noise and wind. Looking forward to getting an EV.
@NobbyOnCars3 жыл бұрын
Quite the boot in the CRV but I think the ID4 wouldn’t feel a step down in terms of space. Not sure what plans Nissan have on bringing in an Ariya, I’d imagine they see others brands such as VW bringing an early production car in for a week for people to film/review so may also as the usual trips away to review cars can’t happen.

Great Video Mark....would you say that the ID 4 1st edition is a significant upgrade on the egolf executive edition?
@NobbyOnCars3 жыл бұрын
100%. Bigger, range, improved tech, ground up EV etc and 1st edition will come in under the 50k for business users in terms of BIK.

That's where I'm at, zero BIK tax saves me around £400 a month compared to a diesel or petrol company car. What's not to like

That boot opining switch is a terrible afterthought they should have kept it in the logo with the camera like many many other vws , it works, but now with both moved it just gets covered in winter crud

the 52kw seems like very good value but would it be very dead to drive?
@NobbyOnCars3 жыл бұрын
Almost 160kgs lighter in the less powerful / smaller battery version. The 77kWh / 200ish bhp version isn't particularly quick either. It has a nice smooth power delivery but doesn't snap your neck so the lower output versions, even more so.

Hi nobby great review 👍. We still don't know what isn't in the 52kw base model at 36k but for about 4k more and fully loaded and bigger battery all be it maybe not as fresh looking as the id4 do you think kia e niro may be a better buy ? .cheers
@NobbyOnCars3 жыл бұрын
This is a bit bigger but the Kia’s range is very good. 7 year warranty too! Might be worth waiting to see Base spec in the VW but the eNiro is going to feel that bit older in design. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gH6Vq4WQadGim9k
