You can easily operate buttons by touch and you can tell if you've pressed them etc without having to look like these pads and any other pads in any other cars make you do for example. Also, how can no automaker actually integrate a reasonable sized screen into their interior design yet? It's been 8 years since we started getting these things in cars and they still can't figure it out. They look awful in their "placed on as an afterthought" position.

It's pure a cost cutting exercise, especialy for VW. This car must deliver for a price point and still be possible to be built in Germany. The rest are the hard plastics (which Doug didn't mention?) and the rather low horsepower. But it's a VW so it should sell well, especially in Europe where the taxes are better for electric vehicles. Don't forget it is a very heavy vehicle, so the rest is expensive as well.
@Reddsoldier3 жыл бұрын
@@JJVernig VW have always had decent switchgear, and I really can't see how traditional push buttons would cost that much more, especially given the longevity, ease of use and safety aspects that they have a clear advantage with. I suspect they haven't included them because it's the "in" gimmick to remove buttons to seem "high tech" because functional tech is apparently not a priority over barely usable tech which looks nice. Sure, in 10 years I might be proven wrong and wonder how we ever did without them, but as it stands, I just don't think it's the best idea to be filling cars with tech that requires drivers to look away from the road, even if there is lane keep assist and radar cruise control because here in the UK at least those things don't mean dick in the vast majority of driving we do on poorly marked and twisty roads outside of the big towns and cities. And I assume the whole point of an electric car with much better range is that it is targeted at people who don't live in cities or big towns because that's where the people who will have range woes live.

But it seems like people just care about the "unresponsive" infotainment system which I believe would probably be sorted out with an update.

In Europe, every ID.4 (and ID.3) receives an update before delivery (update takes approx 7 hours). It activates the Wired & Wireless App Connect, AR Head-Up Display, fixes the issues with the SOS-call button, issues with the Travel Assist, lag of the center screen... we are not allowed the deliver any cars to our clients before doing this update on any ID-car. I hope this update reaches the US as well before the deliveries start rolling out

I really like this car.... Alot in white... And the pedals just sent me into a full geek out. I think I found the car to convince my wife to replace her Jeep with!

The white actually looks pretty slick and sets it apart. They should have kept that theme going through the car. It clashes with the black
