With a wheelbase of just 2.88 m in the short version against the Audi A8 and especially against the S-Class and BMW 7 series, no chance. Still a great, comfortable car with nice gimmicks

VW phaeton ... The last car in Piech's time ... The guy had a crazy vision, for example the engine was to be made so that at 200 per hour there would be no vibrations. The windows were not supposed to evaporate, even if you put a kettle with boiling water inside. Unfortunately, the car did not catch on well and it was the only attempt to create a premium class limousine from VW. All in all, and why if they have an Audi A 8 for it PS or these vent plugs, They are supposed to heat up and be something like a radiator :) PS 2 in my opinion, the ideal engine for this car is the W 12

Most people don't like or don't care about this car, and I understand they'd rather go for the A8, because of the status of the Audi brand. But I just love the class of this thing. So much more elegant than the fancier cousin...and in a way, very understated. Only those who know this car, the story behind it, know its value. Too bad the maintenance costs are too high, according to what I've read about them. I just wonder if even more than the Audi A8.

The great Ferdinand Piech gave his engineers at the end of the 90s the order "Built me the best sedan ever made" Until today, not only for me, the Phaeton W 12 is the best luxuary sedan ever produced. This is undisputed even among hardcore Mercedes fans. Hopefully the Phaeton will come back under the new CEO Oliver Blume, both as a W 12 with E-Fuels, and as a electric version.

As You might seen engine is running on LPG. Some time LPG injectors make such noise

There is no timing chain :P Only chain there is between camshafts, and it's noisy only few seconds after startup, until oil pressure expand the tensioner. Talking about v8 version :)

A8 is driver car and Phaeton is only for luxury drive very isolated and quiet,but very,very heavy and is not for any kind of twisty roads.Only for Autobahn and relax.But impressive car anyway.I'm for a8 always,but phaeton is very very good.Sorry for my English 😊

In Poland we call it "ulep" you have rear lights two before 2007 and two after 2007(in mid of 2007 tail lights become more dark and on roof there are a little antena so car is before 2007)
