@@okida9304 I started playing officially in 1992, as a setter for my college club team. As for jump serves, they aren't new either. I've known how to jump serve since late 92 or early 93. We would jump serve at least half the time even back then/30 years ago. The only times we didn't is when we just wanted to put the ball in play (as running plays and hitting is more exciting than just trying to ace the other team), or when we were just being lazy. If you get a chance, watch as much footage of those four as you can. Timmons was a world class opposite who could hit back quicks as well as any middle hitter. Those guys would run double quicks with a Shoot set on the outside. They were masters of manipulating the block...something I don't see nowadays.

At first, I thought you were our Volleyball coach yesterday haha! I joined the volleyball club in our school and tryouts began yesterday (Saturday for us) and before that day, I watched a ton of your videos just to get an idea of how I should play in the team since I had no experience whatsoever. So, Tryouts came and our coach looked a lot like you! Well, somewhat. But from what I remember, his teaching resembles alot like yours eapecially the video on how to spike properly. I wasn't picked in the tryouts, but had a blast of a time playing!

The thing about the freak shot from the anime is that both the spiker and setter jump at the same time which means the set is just extremely fast and accurate. I don't think anyone irl has done it accurately

in terms of timing it was quite accurate. Don't forget that Hinata is supposed to be quite small and have a really high hit. If you do the same speed with a taller spiker that also doesn't have that kind of vertical, he would have to jump later.

'Hitter'. Only novices and posers call them spikers. Also, K and H's minus tempo Shoot sets are nigh impossible in real life. They can be done but the normal 2 tempo Shoot set outside serves any purpose needed otherwise for a quick outside set.

in my opinion I think its opposite and what I mean by this is that usually in volleyball the spiker would have timed themselves of when to run and spike the ball and all the setter has to do is to just set it for them. So what I mean by opposite is that Kageyama timed the set and all Hinata had to do was to jump, so Kageyama just pin-pointed it to Hinata's hand so that he could spike it.

@@VBMichael_D This was 2 years ago, so I'm no longer playing setter, I'm just a middle now, but I'm able to hit the shoots like in the video if the setter doesn't mess up the height too much like sending it below the net or towards the top of the antenna. I still haven't figured out how to hit slides yet, because it feels completely wrong to move my body like that, and the timing is confusing. But I can hit quick from right behind the setter, and hit like a normal opposite when I'm in position 2.
@VBMichael_D
@VBMichael_D Ай бұрын
@@dasamont8274 Excellent. As for Shoots, the speed was always the thing for me. I've been setting since 1992 (but haven't had a chance to play/teach in a while). The sets have to be going a certain speed in order for them to keep their height for the hitter to hit, but the faster the sets are going, the smaller/shorter the window is for the hitter to hit. That's why the Shoots we ran back in the day were of the 2 tempo variety, where the hitter started their approach as soon as the set leaves the setters hands, not before. You could get them high enough to where the hitter had a decent window, and slow enough to where they acheived the right height at the right time. As for slides, those really aren't needed in the mens' game. You can use an inside out approach (from where you'd normally start a middle quick approach) to hit a 93/Red set and that's going to be not dissimilar to a slide route. If you can hit back quicks and your team can run double quicks (51/71) and even a (31/71), that can freeze or even move the opposing middle blocker to where they wouldn't be able to form a double block anywhere.

I just want to point out (no offense to anyone) that these attacks worked in haikyuu because Hinata was so fast. Some people might say they only work because it’s an anime but I’ve seen a friend try these attacks and make them almost every single time. It’s possible with him because his setter is consistant and he is so fast that by the time he is swinging, the setter had just touched the ball and sets it to him super fast like. Good video though!

A third person would be better for the freak quick so the spiker can focus solely on running and getting a good jump. The reason it works in the anime is because hinata has a high vertical and small size allowing him to spend more time in the air.

How realistic can this set be? I have never seen anyone do this the same way the show does, in which the spiker is already in the air even before the setter has touched the ball. It takes for the hitter to swing without even thinking or seeing the ball and 100% the setter control to be able to put the ball in the proper place. I guess they came pretty close though. There is a lot of muscle memory that has to be denied to do this properly, because they default to set/hit in the way they always do so it is hard to break that habbit and that connection. It is when you see these guys try so hard that you realize that what Kageyama does in the anime is CRAZY GOOD, to be that quick and precise every time, jeez.

Tell me a single time minus tempo has actually been used in a professional match. I'll save you the research, never. Minus tempo is not a thing, it's all theory, it's borderline impossible in any scenario. That's why it was so amazing in the anime, because 'minus tempo' is so hard to actually pull off ONCE no one has ever done it before. It's like doing a double backflip to score a goal in soccer, not exactly impossible but it's so hard and useless there's no point in doing it. Their first tempo is the closest thing, we have to be rational and understand that some things are better off staying inside of fiction. He got Kageyama's setting right, minus tempo is 100% up to the spiker and thus irrelevant to this video.

You can run plays as well, to get the MB to move. I.e. your middle hits a 31 and your right side hits a 93 (Gen Z calls it a Red). Before the pass gets to you, look to see if their middle follows your middle. If they do, set the Red and the right side will have only one blocker. And no, spinning the ball while setting doesn’t mean is a violation like double touch, not exactly, the referee needs to see the setter hands and see if the ball in fact leaved his hands on a different time than another.

The exact way that H and K do it in the series is nigh impossible, however it can be done somewhat similarly in reality. It's like an extended 31 set. But as much as the zero tempo outside set is neat, it's ultimately not that necessary since the 2 tempo shoot set works in pretty much every situation that a quicker outside set would be needed. Also, props for calling it a Shoot. I never even heard it called a Go until within the last 10 years. Is 'Shoot' too hard for Gen Z to say? That said, for the 0 tempo shoots, have you tried putting backspin on the ball to slow it down as it comes out?

I think the spiker is supposed to be in the mid air already before getting the tossed right your mb is already in a position of approach not in mid air which means you're both just doing a normal quick but nice job though.

yeah I just feel like the middle is too slow. He should already be in the air slightly before you touch the ball and then you send it to him. Super hard to do when its just you two since he has to toss.

You need a third person, like Yachi, to feed you the ball because he has a jumping after you set the ball.

I wish a have knees like you guys. Mid 30's and my knees hava already gave up on me. As a kid i played lot of sports. Elementary i played baseball, Highschool tabletennis and basketball. College, i play a little badminton and volleyball. Then kinda lost it when i started working. I'm a bit sad that i can't play like i used to. I can only play table tennis now just to break some sweat. Can only shoot jumpshots on basketball, can't jump high anymore, can't do laterals or any explosive moves. It's just sad.

He is just to close to the net on basically every single attack. Testament is him touching the net almost every time. Just stay off the net. Landing zone should be 30-50cm off the net then the ball will be in front of the attacker, making it much easier to hit it
