I played this sport as a teen. And I must tell you.. the amount of training we did was insane. They used to make us do cartwheel kicks in a pool so that our kicks would be more stronger while in air. Sadly.. in my country (Philippines) I only got to be in a Provincial Team as a striker. Needless to say, the game is very interesting and I loved it. (If you are wondering, yeah, I learned to do those cartwheel kicks, though I also had to land on my back and head a couple of times.)

There's an easy explanation to this. The net is about 1.5m from the ground and the size of the court is slightly smaller than a badminton court. And since the game doesn't permit the use of hand (except at the start of a serve), bicycle kicks are the main source of points for players. No other way to do it.

I remember playing it in grade school as part of the training in the Philippines Football Youth Development program. We didn't do the bicycle kicks, we couldn't lol. The older kid strikers could do a jumping volley when the net height was in the range. The net was played at different heights all the way to tennis height to practice ball control from volleys and volleying. Half volleys allowed for the younger kids. We used both the rattan balls and different sized footballs. More fun than standing in a circle playing keepie-uppie or standing in lines passing headers lol.

1) The whole Malay peninsula and sumatera? Wrong, that is in your dream. You need to checkout your history book again. 2)The proof of sepak takraw in Thai only started at 17th century. Even the Thais said the same thing too. Meanwhile in Malacca we have solid written manuscript from 15th Century including the exact explanation about the ball too. Even the earliest in the thai area nowadays, it started at southern thai, which we all know that is the malay area too and not siam. Emanwhile in indonesia, started at 16th century.

@sakda landrover The confusion among the thais regarding this shows that the fact is argueable and and not solid. The solid proof from thais only began at 17th. The top comment also provided wrong facts about controlling the Malay Peninsula and Sumatera.

@sakda landrover i talk based on what thais said to me. Oh ya and i forgot to mention that besides the written manuscript we have proof as early as 11th century. Only that we dont have it here in Malaysia it is in England, our old manuscript. You were never colonized and yet the strong solid proff barely exist. Meanwhile us lots of old manuscript were stolen and we still have solid proof. And the first modern sepak takraw was formed and held in Malaysia too during the 40s. Besides attacking me, lets make correction on the some false fact on the top comment first okey.
@aimmed77283 жыл бұрын
@sakda landrover its recorded that one of the Sultan's son was hit in the head by the ball and lost his headgear and he killed one of the players due to the incident. It was recorded in the Malay Annals and the yr was given as 1459-1477 because that was the time the Sultan's son lived. It nearly caused a civil war between the rulers and his followers.
@codescamander69933 жыл бұрын
@@aimmed7728 so truee. It was accurately said in that manuscripts including the ball too. And it must been played earlier than 14th century if it widely play during that time.
