Remember that Poland had two very tough opponents in QF and SF and played two long and difficult five-set matches against USA and Brazil. This had an impact on the team and it was visible in the final. Obviously, Italy deserves the win, they were simply better on that day.

De Giorgi should be given a coach of the year award. He's assembled a very young team, clearly building for the future. He's fixed 2 parts of Italy's game (serving and blocking) that are now clearly paying dividends. And while I don't understand Italian, he looks and sounds like a wise grandfather to the team (look at how the players respect his voice) - a calming influence.

Yes, he's amazing. He did the same during the european championship, when the team is not doing good, he doesn't reprimand but offers encouragement to the players and calms them. That's good coaching instead of shouting at the players, like I've seen many times during timeouts.

You're right he is, yesterday he proved it to me during a timeout: Michieletto was underperforming, so during the timeout he said "Sorry coach, today I'm bad", and De Giorgi replied calmly "no you're not bad, just remember that you have many more aces up your sleeves". This was during the second set I think, after that Michieletto scored many points and played much better

@dm78 He improved so much. When he was a Polish national team coach he was very harsh to players and it was the worst coach in Polish last 15 years. He learned from his mistakes and won 2 golds within 1 year with that young team.

Romanò at the time of the European championships was in reserve role in his club team and almost never played (and not even now he is a key player), De Giorgi took him and made him key player since the second half of the championship, but also others, Lavia, Pinali, did not play much in their teams.

I want to remind you that the overall ranking after the group stage included Italy in first place but due to a stupid rule where the host country automatically goes to first place thus having easier opponents. While Poland faced Tunisia and the United States, Italy faced cuba and the olympic champions of France. Moreover, unlike Poland, Italy had to face an away match because they played in Ljubljana up to the quarterfinals. Moreover, Italy won in front of 13 thousand Polish spectators. The Italian team has shown all its strength and all its character despite the numerous advantages that the Poles have had throughout the tournament

An additional advantage that the Poles have had is that on Saturday the Italians played in the evening while the Poles played earlier in the afternoon. This allowed the Poles to have more recovery time. There is still another: why the prize for best hitter went to the Pole and not to Lavia? Statistically the best spikers are Lavia and immediately after Leal. Based on the percentages, the Pole finished fourth. I'll tell you why: the world championship was held in katowice

As an Italian sports fan, I have to say I was beyond impressed by the Polish crowd. The fans were loud, supportive, respectful. They cheered for their players even after a heartbreaking defeat, applauded the other teams and even clapped along to the Italian anthem. For me this is sportsmanship at its peak and a display of tremendous respect for athletes and other supporters. I have to say I was almost moved to tears by the atmosphere. Great job to all players, coaches and fans! Forza Italia, bravi ragazzi!

Italy had amazing block-defense system on this World Championships. That was their key to victory. Also their serve in this match was good. Poland had just 28% reception. Giannelli was playing all tournament good and he deserved MVP but it's was weird that Lavia didn't receive a award. Galassi got award by he scored 5 points(1 block) in semifinal and 0 in final. I don't know why they choosed him. If they wanted someone from Italy Anzani deserved more. For me best team should be: Giannelli Romano Leal, Lavia Bieniek/Kochanowski, Lucas Balasso FIVB should make a one system for world championships. Not changing this all the time and not favour a hosts. Also after semi finals should be one day rest. Also interesting it's despite Italy are the European Champions the viewerships was low in Italy.

A month ago and looking back at the VNL final 4, nobody would have believed in Italy's victory, myself included. I'm speechless but so happy and proud, they did something incredible. They're the underdog. They won as a group (first World Championship for all of them except Giannelli and Anzani). Giannelli is the perfect leader for this team and the well deserved MVP. They wrote a new chapter in the Italian men volleyball history and winning in Katowice twice in a year is priceless. Also it's amazing that the two coaches De Giorgi and Grbic were facing each other in the final in 1998 as players. Life is a cycle. Italy volleyball teams won everything this summer and it's not over yet. Now I'm so "scared" and excited for the women side (but no pressure).

Vnl is not a great indicator and it was a different team..By the way i still don't get it how a nation that won the european championship can be defined as "underdogs"... always do it with Italy...It's just madness for me. But please keep doing it, it's just and advantage for Italy.

@@Cosmopavone Being an underdog is not a bad thing. It's winning despite the odds. Italy is the youngest team and only Giannelli and Anzani has played a World Championship before. Italy has the same line-up as we've seen in the VNL. (Oggettivamente, nessuno si sarebbe mai aspettato questo risultato un mese fa).

@@RockAddicted7 yeah, i said the same, keep calling us underdogs please. But i still don't understand how the european champions can be defined underdogs. An underdog team is a team that wins it all even if they had zero chance of winning on paper. That's far from being the case of Italy. Italy's volley scene has proven that right now is the best in the world, male, female, under teams, that tells a situation that cannot be ignored, it means the the infrastructure and the coaching is far beyond the level of the other nations and that is even more important than the individual strenght of the members of the teams. And let's not forget that those players play in the top domestic league of the world.

The only criticism i have to make to the Polish organization is about the matches who did not involve Poland. The hall was almost desperately empty, normally... This is not a great spot for the volley movement.
