The virgin waiting 5 years for hattori to return vs the chad waiting 8 years for aizu to return. Stupendous battle, probably never to be topped. I love that part towards the end. The normally steadfast samurai losing their will to fight as they get swamped by thousands of their own fleeing troops. Reminds me of real world accounts, armies losing heart as their front line crumbles and retreats through them, retreats turning into chaotic routs. Napoleon's exhausted army breaking after seeing his old guard shot down and sent into retreat at Waterloo. So many good moments in this. Balancing act kiting with the general, the yari kachi turning and fighting through units to then rapid advance away from a banzai charging shogitai up a hill, to then turn and charge back down with the advantage of moving down the hill. All this happening while the guns of the fortification are sounding off, blanketing the entire downwind side of the map with gunsmoke. Disciplined, staged withdrawals from one level of the fort to another, making the jozai pay dearly for every inch of aizu ground they take. This is probably the best video you have ever made within the confines of total war. Your laugh of triumph upon hearing "victory is assured sir" lol. Epic battle, worth the wait of 8 years. Looking forward to more Aizu, as I have for the past 8 years :alphaAF:

You know Volound, you can portray yourself to be a total expert in total war games, but you need to stop stepping out of your line and thinking you're some genius when it comes to life, ESP when much of what you say or advocate is total utter rubbish of the worst kind. First and foremost you are a Godless buffoon that has been easily swayed by the arguments of Richard Dawkins, a man debunked by all people who worship one God. Second of all (and this is not surprising since you are a Godless buffoon) you believe you are doing righteous action by abstaining from eating all kinds of meat, so much so that you accuse those who eat meat due to their love of God being murderers! This is a travesty and a lie for those who truly love God do not cause undue harm to God's creatures and only do as he commands, tend to the sheep that he grows and eat from His Provisions. You seem to conflate several arguments one being vegan philosophy (rooted in atheist thought) and genuine animal welfare (which is ordained by God). Animal welfare in practical terms would mean only taking meat from locally sourced organic produce. As for you, you claim to be someone who strives to not hurt creatures by becoming a militant low t vegan, but what about the horrible excesses of the modern agricultural industry. What about the millions of "pests" like insects, rodents, fish, birds and even weeds that are killed off by mechanical agricultural tools or chemicals toxic to God's creatures. What do you say then o' Godless buffoon? And finally, you are a ultra progressive ultra leftist that wishes to see all men lose their virility, manliness, honour, culture, traditions. What do you say about the culture and traditions of Scotland, the land of you and your forefathers? Why have you abandoned them for decadent globalisation and cancerous modernity? You shame your forefathers.

That battle setup and execution was so similar to mine holy shit. The only difference being that I put my general on the left side of the fort instead of the right after the enemy general is killed. Sometimes, I would use that same route you did with the general but I didn't have the yari kachi on the rear. That outcome is that some of the katanas would make it up the wall resulting in a loss. If you send your general left he gets sniped by bow ki who have ridiculous accuracy btw. So you end up losing too much of your general to reinforce the yari kachi when the time comes.

Walls are always your friend in shogun 2 let it be attacking or defending. They're natural choke points and have to be climbed even if destroyed. Unlike let's say rome2 where the wall breach can easily be widened. In shogun 2 and the expansion fall of the samurai, if you're the one attacking in a siege battle expect high casualties just by climbing the wall. That’s also why you should always siege out your enemy and avoid siege battles, to lessen the casualties.

This game is the best out of TW series. My current Otomo playtrough I did every thing wrong at the start - nanban, 2x leased land, no income, 2 rebellions, enemy metsuke ravaging trough my priests, 3 neighbouring fronts.. and I wanted to restart. But I had few yari and yumi units and I managed to pull through because of superb shogun mechanics where we stand a chance if we can utilize all the battlefield bonuses and tricks. Now 40 or so turns later I am enjoying carefully planned conquest of the whole island. Shogun really is great fun despite being outdated and lacking faction/unit diversity.
@Volound3 жыл бұрын
well shogun 2 actually has the greatest variety* because the units have proper differentiation. modern total war games pretend to have differentiation because they change skins and tweak some numbers. that isnt orthogonal differentiation. ive explained this in my "total decline" critique series.
@steretsjaaj23683 жыл бұрын
@@Volound yeah I watched those videos.. we would rather have 6 different unit variations with working mechanics than 50 different broken clones
@xleftsidex16272 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's outdated at all. The game looks great even now in 2022 and has the best animations out of all tw titles. It only needs the same quality dev team that can grab the same engine and just improve it using the capabilities of the current tech. I think the results would have been tremendous. Imagine 100 thousands troops with 202X graphics and smooth animations like in shogun but even better - that's how I imagined the future of TW playing shogun in 2012... And somehow Shogun 2 runs pretty well on my pc with a garbage integrated intel graphics, yet Rome 2/Attila, which looks just a tad better only in terms of texture details, runs miles worse or just unplayable. Sadly, there are no games from any other studios that could compete with it. Basically, nobody else makes such games for some reason - maybe that's also why I can't objectively say that shogun 2 isn't outdated though :)

Fellow hc Shogun 2 fan here. Baitin units with cav is one of the necessities in defending impossible siege battles. I def dont use the rapid advance as efficient as you do. Great fucking stuff

Damn, I miss these days of Total War. Back then I envisioned an infinite future of Total Wars, each one better than the last and improving on the formula. You could pull off stunts like this, and then half the time you'd have to do it again the next turn, except half of that time that one turn was enough to get your reinforcements just out of range of the battle, and finally the other half of that time those reinforcements would actually be in range.
