Markthal aka Market hall in Rotterdam is the worlds most unique food market. I don't believe there's another food market quite like this. Rotterdam is known for its unique architecture and it shows in the Markthal. You can find local Dutch foods in this market as well a wide range of other foods from all the continents.
I tried everything that I could in 1 go and was left wishing that I had room for one more bite. The food in the Rotterdam market hall was simply delicious and the artwork on the ceiling of the food market is quite a site to see.

Hi there most tourist and even a lot of Dutch people say the haring is raw, but the haring isn't raw it's chemically cooked with brine. I hope you enjoyed your stay here in the Netherlands.

The coloured cheeses is for tourists.. So you might have noticed : In Den Haag (The Hague) there are historically a large number of Indonesian people from when the times The Netherlands lost Indonesia as colony. We adopted the Indonesian food as almost being our national dishes. Even most of the Chinese people were from Indonesia but nowadays also from Suriname and China itself :) Rotterdam is the city with the largest community of different cultures being 1 of the biggest ports in Europe. If you can not find it in Rotterdam it does not exist ;-)

The herring is not raw: it is fermented in its own enzymes. This is an old preserving called "kaken" where the herring is partly gutted (partly because of the enzymes) and layed in salt.

It can be eaten raw, most fish can be eaten raw like tuna and mackarel
@movo721
@movo721 3 жыл бұрын
@@TheUndertaker2408 actually, it’s not raw, it’s ‘gekaakt’, which means that, as soon as the fish is caught, it’s partially de-gutted, gilled, but they leave the pancreas in. That way the enzymes from the pancreas ensure that the herring can ripen and that it will taste good, makes it mild and soft. Then it’s salted (brined) and put into a barrel. The salt will remove the moisture from the fish and the osmosis gradually makes the herring salty. The more salt they add, the longer the herring will remain edible and mature. Nowadays it’s also frozen to make sure no parasites remain. At the shop the herring is cleaned and the pancreas will be removed.

I was going through your Indian journey and found that you're an ardent follower of Biryani where ever you go. So, thanks for keeping the tradition alive and spreading it across. Kanchenjunga became Chankangunja over there and Cinnamon became Cinnanum over here. Lol... And btw, one more thing, you need to try at least 20-30 Biryanis in Hyderabad first to decide which Biryani you'd like the most. 'Cause a lot of the hotels aren't giving you the good stuff. I suggest you should try some homemade Biryanis this time when you come over here. OK, I'll continue watching your travellin' 'round the world.
