I thought this was a great user review done by Robert. If anyone wants to review any products I have I will consider it and also in asking the brand to send them to you. If you want to post some reviews of your own products as user reviews as a test (maybe say how they got on against others you replaced) I will hapilly feature them on my channel, and then if you want to try particular products and are a fan we could see if your local distributor would send you one maybe.

@@johnh539it would be great if others could post own real reviews of products and a community would be developed to help each other online. I did pitch this before. If not then, as is prob more likely, brands could give products to enthusiastic users who can review.

Tip of the day. If you have a Roon Nucleus and it can be connected via Ethernet close tour DAC of choice, forget using a streamer and just connect your Nucleus to your DAC with a decent USB cable and you’re good to go using the Nucleus as both the Roon Core and streamer. In some cases less is more and hey one less component to buy and have in your cabinet. Enjoy!

When he said volumio is quick to reply if you had a problem, I did when I had a problem and got no reply but thankfully was able to sort it out. I have the earlier volumio streamer myself. It's great for hard disk but for streaming services ABIT more buggy then my wiim device. Of course volumio has better sound.. Review though was much better then I could do. Hope you feature more reviews from him and I think this is a great idea Simon.

Totally. On all your points except in my case I am new to Volumio and I don't yet consider my problems as fully sorted . In fact I bought the linier power supply first and had it not been that I wanted to hear the 720 bit rate my RME can handle I really did not feel I needed to replace my Wiim.

It may sound very good ( I don't know ) but, OMG .... It's UUUUGLY ! ! ...If you NEED the USB Output, I would pay the extra and buy the Brilliant Innuos Pulse Mini .... ( the Innuos APP is Superb ) IMO, the Rivo is Well ''over-priced''. If U don't need the USB Facility, I'd suggest you buy ( I Did ) the excellent Cambridge Audio MXN-10 ... And yes, I also own the Pulse Mini ...

Does Volumio 3 support folder view? I want to play local files on a USB drive and i need the software to respect the folder structure i created (Genre/Artist/Album/Track) without re-tagging, re-indexing, etc. basically i want the software to play my folders as they are and leave them alone. I don't want to have to rename thousands of songs until they comply with the software's behavior. Thank you.

Can I ask something from a layman’s perspective? I really like Volumio-it’s fantastic software! But since you’re connecting both streamers to the same USB DAC, I’m surprised you’re hearing noticeable differences between two high-quality streamers. Any variation in sound is most likely due to factors like placebo effect, jitter, power supply issues, or noise isolation. Since even a Raspberry Pi connected to the same DAC has been shown to be virtually indistinguishable from higher-end streamers, it makes me wonder if there might be a fault with one of the devices. Could your Eversolo be malfunctioning? Either that, or perhaps power supply and jitter issues do indeed make such a big difference that what you’re hearing isn’t really differences between two models, but rather between individual streamers, regardless of the brand. We know little about Volumio’s error correction and reclocking technology, and with many DAC manufacturers claiming that their asynchronous DAC technology should render any clock issues at the source level moot (like with your RME ADI-2/4 Pro), which is designed to handle this. So again, I’m wondering: are we experiencing placebo, a malfunctioning streamer, or just normal variance between individual devices rather than their models?
@rm-mastering2 ай бұрын
The only thing I can suggest is to try the device first hand assuming you can switch between the Volumio and a-n-other streamer quickly to avoid memory muscle which is unreliable at best. 13th note hifi is offering this possibility to you. You should be able to see I have both the units described in this video to mitigate speculation. The differences I heard were suttle but identifiable and it depends on how much value you would place on what your preferences are if you conduct a test as I've been fortunate to show you. The other factor is how much value you place on the engineering and it's looks. Once you've taken the time to conduct a test as thoroughly as I have then you would be in a better position to suggest placebo.

The unavailability of an optional remote is also problematic for me, sometimes I want to quickly pause playback when I need to attend to something without having to pick up the phone. Another fail.

Nice review, maybe try to talk a few % slower 😊 Speakers are interesting, not completely convinced by the amt vs dome, I agree about the speed/clarity and lack of harshness of an AMT but somehow I lose a little connection/emotion with the music. Anyway, there should be (much) more ´streamers only´ like the Rivo but with a more ´classic´ design 🤞🏻
@rm-mastering3 ай бұрын
Thank you for commenting, AMT’s do indeed sound different to domes, I’ve heard many from the rising speaker manufacturers now using AMT’s on their products and when comparing the two types of tweeters I can appreciate why someone would say they ‘lose a little connection/emotion with the music’. You may be able to see in the video whilst I’m conducting white noise tests - sitting on the floor is another speaker [white] built to the same spec but using a dome. In my experience, AMT’s are difficult to integrate due to a steeper frequency roll off, can’t play down to low and typically cut off at around 3Khz making it difficult to match to a midbass unit (around 5 inches) which would already be in its breakup mode and are typical of 2-way speaker designs. Some good speakers I’ve heard that incorporate AMT’s are a 3 way design which have a dedicated Mid-range Woofer (around 3-4 inches diam) and are able to reach 3Khz, you may prefer these 3 way designs. I’ve had more success with a larger AMT, the ones I use in my design are 86mm almost twice the size normally used, they reach down to 1.8Khz and can easily integrate to midbass units (of 4-5 inches) to avoid breakup modes. The unusual thing with my design is the AMT performed better mounted horizontally in the d'appolito design, It had more consistent off-access early reflection response.

@@rm-mastering Thanks for your feedback, I get your point. My Neat Xplorer speakers use also a slightly bigger AMT and this works fine but it still sounds different to a dome. My experience with a smaller midrange (4 to 5 inch) is an incredible fast and accurate midrange with excellent imaging but on the other hand voices can become a little nasal and thin. My current setup uses a Bliesma T34B tweeter (low crossover point) and Purifi 6,5 midwoofer and this is best of two words (for me 🙂)
