Yes they are a few places doing that in langkawi. I remembered vlogger from Portugal travelgrammers volunteered in langkawi as well.

We only got paid in accommodation and food. Some workaways just have accommodation 😊

Whenever I completed visiting cities in eu and returned to england via flights, I always saw people holding passports with dark red/maroon covers queueing at the immigration/border control lines for british citizens. But yours has a blue cover?

Yeah they changed them after brexit, any British passports issued now will be dark blue 😊
