The first time I saw him sing this, I cried. To see such anguish and loss in his face brings the knowledge to the viewer of all the misplaced love he spent a lifetime trying to recapture. It is written on the lines of his face, his simple movement through the crowd, and the tremble in his voice. I am now and will always be in awe of this man until the day I die. Go with God, my friend.

Actors in Hollywood who valued the craft of acting over the celebrity of stardom, considered HDS the best actor they ever worked with. It reflects poorly on Hollywood that this revered actor, a master of his craft as shown in hundreds of supporting roles, and two masterful leading roles, never received a major award.

In real life, Harry Dean Stanton was a very interesting guy. A life very well lived. He didn't shy away from allowing other cultures to influence him, especially the music. He was friends with many prominent musicians, including Linda Ronstadt and Bonnie Raitt. Hearing an old man sing this song from his soul just gives it so much more meaning. Reminds me of when Johnny Cash covered songs like "Hurt" by Nine Inch Nails and "In My Life" by The Beatles. "Volver, Volver" is a beautiful song that gets relegated too often to drunk people singing it for entertainment purposes. Not trying throw any shade though. People singing together in fellowship is often a good thing. But I like this version better. Well done, Mr. Stanton.
