Volvo 122 Amazon Heater control Valve Replacement

What the heck, let's just go through the whole heating and cooling system in one weekend. Shall we?!
I bought a cheaper eBay heater control valve to save $50, and guess what? It was crap! I now have 500 miles on it and it failed yesterday afternoon. It doesn't leak, but it doesn't turn off. Grrrr....

I plan on continuing. I’ve been having some health problems lately and I’m working that out, so I’m hoping to get back in the shop more as time goes on. Lots to do on the Volvo, and on the Beetle.

UPDATE the manufacturer is sending me a replacement. They had me adjust it and it seemed to work much better but still replacing it. Welp! The $50 less heater control valve turned out to be crap! It doesn't leak, but it doesn't turn the heat off either. No control of the heat at all. It worked for a few weeks but failed yesterday. Contacted the seller to see if they will replace it so we will see. Not hopeful...

I am thinking of trying to get a 1967 volvo 122 running again is there anything you have seen that would make me change my mind on trying to get running and working again?

Do you have a photo of the heater control valve wire going into the side of the heater unit. Do you have to uncoil the copper?

I only had to uncoil maybe 2 inches. It was pretty straight forward. Just remember it’s not wire, it’s a tube with conductive goo inside (no idea what it is) that expands when heated to close the valve.

@@Misunderstoodboygenius I just can’t figure out where the tube goes into the air box. The old valve had no tube so not sure.

@@stacerogers4008 it literally just goes in between the halves of the lower box. Olsen the screws and pry apart in the car, but it is much easier out.

@@Misunderstoodboygenius thanks, I already have the unit out and am cleaning it up and painting inspired by the video. Mine had about 10 times more leaves and debris than yours. Fun fun fun

@@stacerogers4008 cool! I did a test fit and some adjusting before I buttoned it all together. The coil just hangs out in the middle there.

You seem a bit vague on exactly where the coil end of the tube goes.i know it sits inside the heater box,but how does it go through it? Where does it sit inside the heater box,and how does it work? I'm about to do the same job on my 1970 130.Amazon.

Hey there. It just sits below the heater core so it doesn’t interfere with the flaps. You really do have to split the box to instal because it stays coiled in the box. I’m going to do mine again this summer so I will update.

@@Misunderstoodboygenius Thanks. I'm looking for not made in China at a reasonable price. (i'm in the UK,so don't have IPD or VP available.) A few on ebay are reasonably priced but i am waiting for Country of manufacture confirmation ,as it's a job i only want to do once!
