When you drove past Stanley Gate I suddenly realised where you were. Originally from Southport myself

Sounds trucky. I like it.

Yep. Just wish it had a manual gearbox. Would sound better still. Bit like a Cummins diesel.

Superbracey Do you still have this ? My late uncle had a dark blue 940 2.4tic when I was younger and I remember the sound to my young ears it sounded bad ass compared to the rovers and Toyota carinas that were common I remember it being very smokey out the back because he drove like a grandad so anytime you accelerated hard it filled the road with black smoke 😂 Thanks for the awesome memories Joe

@@Mr330d Hi Joe. I'm afraid I no longer own the car. It's probably my favourite all rounder of the 30 + cars I've owned and I regret selling it.

Oh man this sounds awesome. Are these sort of cars much hard work or are they pretty solid? Not spending silly money on parts?

MegaNickT Funny you should ask that question right now. The car has been supremely reliable in the 14 months (15,000 miles) that I've owned it. I commute 40 miles a day in it and it's taken me to Cornwall (350 miles) and Paris (500 miles). However, it's started suffering from air in the fuel lines and occassionally loses power at motorway speeds. It's currently in the garage while the cause is being investigated. It could be a perished fuel intake pipe from the tank, one of the injectors or the injection pump. I just hope that the fault doesn't render the car uneconomical to repair as I love the car despite usually owning sporty cars. That said, it has never let me down or failed to start and has just rolled over to 200,000 miles a few weeks ago. It is well built, very comfortable (heated seats etc) and just feels like a solid, dependable car. Really huge load space being the estate and really practical. Same engine as this kzbin.info/www/bejne/qoW1qXudfZt9aLM (plus a turbo and intercooler). I always loved the VW IT engine sound which was why I bought my Volvo.

Superbracey They're bulletproof when maintained. It sounds fantastic and I can imagine it being a very fun, unique and characterful car with some real history. I'm 17 and thinking about my next car and want it to be an old Volvo. Willing to pay a bit on insurance if it's affordable but these seem to be very high. The cars themselves can be found decent as cheap as chips, just worried about maintenance and the inevitable which is insurance. Where in the UK are you?

MegaNickT When i was 17 this would have been my last choice of car! Find one that's been looked after and make sure you change the oil regularly (every 5-7,000 miles on the diesel) and they're supposed to be reliable. Rust seems to be far less of a problem than most cars that are 20+ years old. The garage traced the fault on mine down to a fuel pipe of too small a bore having been fitted by a previous owner. The pipe was basically restricting the flow of diesel to the injector pump. So not really the cars fault but a bodge by a previous owner! I'm Lancashire.

Haha, I like old Volvo estates. It's just the insurance, would die for an 850R 5 speed manual but the fuel and insurance is a killer. There's so many cars out there that it's impossible to choose sometimes. I look at older Fiestas, then even older Volvos. I want something deceiving, seemingly slow and Grandad like, but a little nippier than first though! I'd look after it and maintain it if I could insure one, it's about £4400 at the moment for a year which is crazy. Ah that's a shame, but you know what it is and hopefully no damage done. Out of curiosity, what did you pay and how many miles?
@superbracey7 жыл бұрын
MegaNickT I paid about £1000 with 185,000 miles. There were cheaper ones and there were lower mileage ones but mines mint and the diesels are rare. The fault is sorted. After lots of head scratching they replaced a 50p piece of pipe.

what sites can i find used volvo diesels in uk?
@superbracey2 жыл бұрын
You just have to look at all of them, regularly. The 740 / 940 diesels are very rare in the UK.

Is it the stock downpipe?
@superbracey6 жыл бұрын
Johan Wahlström Yes. Stock downpipe then straight pipe exiting just before the rear wheel.
