Fred this was an extremely well presented video of what to look out for when buying this specific car with great detailed information. I have recently discovered that I am a Volvo enthusiast and intend to invest in one of these cars as a future classic. Thanks for the time you have put into this and I shall subscribe to see what else you provide regarding any other vehicles over the coming future.

Great vid! Some hints...let the owner drive first just to see how he treats the car, besides, inside town you better concentrate on traffic then on the car itself. Very good idea to keep everything silent, but dont forget to check the AC. From 3 cars I bought in UK, 2 had a broken spring (MG ZT and BMW 520 e60),one was ok, but it was an old Grand Cherokee who has got really an off road suspension layout. This vid is very helpful for me, because next car I want is a C70 convertible. The automatic seems to be the better choice, becsuse especially the C70 is more a cruiser than a sports car. Relaxed scandinavian mentality. By the way, they also have good race drivers 😉

Great video Fred, I'm buying a 2002 C70 HPT Conv with 85k miles on it. It also has the 2.3L engine

Thank you.  They are tough cars and last well if you keep up the general maintenance. Mine is the less powerful 2.4 LPT turbo so yours will be even quicker.

@@CB-RADIO-UK has it been reliable? How strong is the soft top? Safe to park it outside without anyone being about to slice through the top to break into the car?

Any ideas how to update headlight and reduce scutle shake
@CB-RADIO-UK4 жыл бұрын
Hi. Use Phillips Night Breaker upgraded hal headlight bulbs which improve the lights. Fitting a front strut brace helps reduce the shake by some degree but there is no cure.

Derek Patterson Totally agree Derek. Its prob the most relaxing car I have ever driven which includes Jaguar and Lexus (both not owned sadly). The 2.4 and the T5 can really shift when they have too but it seems cruel somehow. LOL. Thanks for the comment buddy.

what would you buy saab aero or vector convertible vs c70 convertible ?
@CB-RADIO-UK6 жыл бұрын
Tough one. The later Saabs was nothing more than a Vaux Vectra with a different body. The 2.2 engine had bad oil starvation issues, i know as we had a SRi Vectra from new and it was poor. Engine and gearbox the Volvo wins hands down. However i think the Saab has a more modern interior and even looks as good if not better from the front. Parts wise the Vaux / Saab prices will be cheaper than Volvo. One thin that impressed me with the C70 whilst underneath was the fact that all the brake pipes are copper. Its that sort of thing which Volvo do well.

I am buyng the volvo c70 2001.. there is a engine management light on. What is the worst that it can be do you think?
@CB-RADIO-UK9 жыл бұрын
Emil Kunda Hard to say what the worse could be. I guess if a lot of things have failed. The only way to tell is to plug in a OBD2 reader (from £14 on ebbay) and write down any codes. Then google them to get an idea of possible repairs. Trouble is it could be something very cheap or just a maf sensor which needs cleaning to a new ECU unit. You going to need the codes buddy.
@emilsoberbro369 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot. I guess i will take a risk. Buying c70, 2001, 107mileage for 700 quid on really good condition. I guess the worst repair won't cost me more than 500 pounds.
@CB-RADIO-UK9 жыл бұрын
Prob not but I would still run the codes to be sure. Because these cars are common with the V70 and to a degree the 850 there are plenty of spare parts available. Just check the roof operation more than once and the sequence including the chime at the end. Even if nothing goes wrong and the roof just needs sequence adjustment its £100 at the dealers. Like any 14 yr old car bushes and suspension wears out. If not already join the Volvo forum. www.volvoforums.org.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=16 Don't let me put you off though as these are rust free strong cars and last for years with reg maintenance.
@emilsoberbro369 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much for your help. So I bought the car and run the diagnostic with my friend it turned out it is the p1171 code. We cleared it and it appeared again. It would point towards the faulty MAF sensor but it was changed two months ago, so now I assume it is an air leak somewhere. Unless it could be something else. I will be definitely joining the forum! :)

I think I would rather live with the occasional scuttle shake, as my friend had a Mercedes clk which cost him a fortune just to stay on top of the rust......
@CB-RADIO-UK7 жыл бұрын
Thats the problem with the early CLK. I really wanted one for a while esp with the V6 but when they swapped over to water based paint it was porous. Things got better with the 2005 gen onward's but i dont think they were out of the woods till at least 2008. The Volvo is not the most dynamic car in its class but is well made and tough. Most have survived well. Long after BMW 3 series, Saab's and even Audi's have been taken off the road.

Dreadful scuttle shame........it's shaking on a smooth road?????? Not good
@CB-RADIO-UK7 жыл бұрын
Yes that is true Ben. Sadly the car does suffer from shuttle shake. In fairness all conv car of this era did have the problem. The flexing was so bad on the Saab that it would split its bulkhead. A engine cross brace can help but wont cure it.
