Volvo D13 with I shift automatic transmission on a 2013 Volvo. I was a company driver until July 2016 with this outfit. I recommended to the owner to replace the battery pack. What was changed: Battery bus bar, battery terminals, boost pressure sensor, egr sensor. This did not fix the problem. I never found out the solution because I left after getting laid off from this place. I know how to contact the owner if you really need help with this issue. Judging from statistics most of the viewers who are having issues and found this video are from coastal regions such as California, Texas, and BC. Salt and corrosion is most likely the cause as the trucks that have this problem mainly works in coastal regions.
Please train your truck wash people not to spray high pressure wash directly at the electronics and sensors in the engine bay and keep your sensor connectors under a watchful eye. Don't let road salt accumulate into your battery box and engine bay and transmission. I hope these tips will help you avoid the frustration, expense, and wear on the truck and your driver.

No turbo boost. 1- Vgt lever stuck need to take the vgt actuator off and play with it left and right see if it's easy to move if not take the muffler side of the turbo off and clean it with brake cleaner until vgt lever moves easy left to right,if not replace the turbo it's bad 2- Check if the Vgt actuator is rotating u can take the vent actuator off and try to spin the rotary if it dont spin freely actuator is bad ( u dont need to program the vgt actuator if u can align the dot on the rotary to 215 degrees you will see the numbers right inside part of the vgt rotary and make sure actuator level is aligned with the hole on the turbo all the way to the right where it dont go any further just a tip lol)3- Turbo boost sensor located on the air intake manifold check to see if it's good or bad by simply unplugging it while the engine running u will notice changes to the engine running ,if no changes then turbo boost sensor is bad. I hope this would help to .😊 ( location to the sensor is on top right side of the intake manifold )

I read everyone's comments about what the problem could be..... now....the problem and fix is to check your battery box. All volvos are power sensitive. The voltage in the video told the story. Something is loose in his connections or even a wire may have become loosen. Volvo has always had an electrical issues, unlike most trucks the electrical life-line feeds multiple components that governs volvo truck performance. Steak dinner...it's in the battery's connections....guaranteed!!!

In the battery box, there is a small fuzed wite that connects to the negative terminal bus. If the fuse is burnt, the truck will crank but not start. In this case it's only corroded and sometimes it loses connection with vibration. This leads to the sudden almost shut off of the truck. Bottomline, the problem is in the battery box. Check that and clean you terminalls and bob is your uncle.

Yes when an engine is at idle rpm or no-load state it does not move that turbo gauge because almost no fuel is being burned. Turbos job is to deliver Air to the engine intake under pressure in order to help burn fuel more efficiently under load. Telltale signs of a worn turbo is black smoke out the exhaust on older trucks, poor fuel economy, and maybe some other issues but I'm not a mechanic. Volvo Engines' ECM are controlled by their transmissions ECM. This networks with other ECMs across multiple modules such as ABS, Traction Control, Cruise Control, Brake Sensor Switch, Throttle Position Sensor, Engine Speed Governor, Turbo Boost Pressure sensors, Turbo Wastegate Position sensors, and fuel injector sensors. This spaghetti coding of sensors and switches and ECMs makes the job of duplicating the exact problem and narrowing down the exact cause extremely difficult in modern trucks for skilled mechanics under tight production deadlines and expectations. Add road salt, poorly aimed 3500PSI blast of pressure washer to a sensor connector or sensitive electronics and the problem is even tougher to narrow down. This truck went to the shop six times for the same issue, and each time failed to get diagnosed correctly. Each shop was an authorized dealer for Volvo and no expense was spared trying to diagnose it.

I was laid off this job before the truck finally got fixed so I never found out the solution. I ended up working local because it was too much shock on the driveline and the U-Joints and driveline and steadybearing were developing too much wear and slack from this condition and overall the truck was not reliable enough for highway work. I drove about 10 trips in this condition and believe me I was very frustrated and glad to be laid off from this job.

@jasb78
@jasb78 7 жыл бұрын
The first thing I recommended to the owner was to replace the batteries before doing any further diagnoses because I performed a load test and found several weak batteries in the battery grid which will cause a brown-out condition under load and that will cause issues such as premature starter failure, electronics behaving erratically, and sensors not producing the correct voltage to the ECM. Low voltage under load causes more heat and amperage to flow through a wire for longer periods of time under brown-out because that circuit is not getting enough voltage to overcome circuit resistance and does not have enough energy to complete the task. Higher voltages near 14.5V causes a circuit to energize and de-energize quicker which protects the ciruits from overheating. You can compare this by understanding similarly when you put your bicycle in too high a gear it takes longer to climb the hill, puts more wear on your body because you don't have enough power to push that tall gear, and you may never get to the top of the hill without collapsing from exhaustion and pain because you have now blown your knee caps from trying to finish the hill too long. Owner declined the replacement and I did provide the battery load test sheet as evidence even. This same truck with this battery pack burnt a starter. Let that be a lesson always engage the battery kill switch if you leave the truck unattended for more than a day.
