Common rail engines, replace secondary fuel filter at 10-15k during cold weather due to fuel blends. Only use Volvo common rail filter although Volvo approves two other 3rd party filter from Donaldson and fleet guard, I recommend Volvo filter and nothing else. This will save your common rail engines from running rough, misfire, hard starts from early 250-300k injector failures. Most trucks are repaired at mom and pop shops and they’re unaware, use wrong non common rail fuel filters and this voids your warranty, it becomes costly. Inj pump noise doesn’t affect performance. Injector pump noise and camshaft spun lobe sounds almost identical. To tell the difference, run a common rail system test and the spun cam lobe will most likely show up on the test. If you don’t have computer access, pull cover and check #2, 4 and 6 pumping inj. Look at the inj spring retainer and see if there is damage around the retainer edge. If there is, look carefully at the exhaust rocker to see if there is indication of the inj spring retainer hitting rocker. This is confirmation of interference between inj and exhaust rocker which is from a spun cam lobe. I can make diagnostic videos on complex faults like fuel and emissions which are very common on these 13l but I don’t think my dealership would like that. 😅

I have problem with my Volvo D13 engine I replaced 3 times a oil cooler and I still have small amount of oil into the coolant expansion tank This is happened in the period of 5 months Mechanic told me that probably the head gasket or head itself is bad or the engine block is cracked but there is no coolant in the oil or oil pan so my question is what could it be the problem with this issue Regards from Chicago
