Volvo EX30 vs. Zeekr X - Which one should you take?

With Zeekr entering the EU market another Geely brand is looking for new customers. Will they 'steal' Volvo customers with the EX30's twin, the Zeekr X? And if so, does that make sense? Let's talk EX30 vs. Zeekr X!

Hands down the EX30 is a far more handsome car. The Zeekr suffers with the same design aesthetics as the Kia and Hyundai lineups that make them look dated within 2 or 3 years. The EX30 will look good 10 years from now. Zeekr is not available here in the States and if it was, I wouldn’t buy it. It looks cartoonish to me. I’m placing a preorder deposit for the EX30 this week.

Disagree. I prefer the Zeekr. Definitely not a big difference though, and it’s really subjective. Some people though the Toyota FJ Cruiser would date really quickly, and here we are - it’s become a timeless design and now they sell for more secondhand than they cost brand new.

I prefer the funky styling of the Zeekr...kinda reminds me of a Beetle or Juke...fun but slighly more serious

The zeeker has the best audio system I have ever listened to in a car. Designed by Yamaha from scratch. You need to hear it 😮

I would have purchased the sleek Volvo EX30 with the gorgeous interior of the Zeekr X in a heartbeat! Too bad that Volvo went from "less is more" design approach to a monastic frugality (recycled plastics everywhere and not even a screen behind the steering wheel, WTF)

Ik ga dinsdag de EX30 bekijken in Vianen. Drivers display en HUD mis ik niet. Ze hebben het Driver’s display “vastgezet” boven in het grote display. Helemaal prima. En ik vind de EX30 veel mooier en vooral strakker dan de X.

I agree, unlike something like the Hyundai Ioniq 5/6. Don't get me wrong, they look great but I feel the retro/pixel look is not timeless.

Zeekr is a cousin to Volvo. Polestar is a sister brand. I take the Volvo but the Zeekr has more features. I just like the no-fuss more understated Scandinavian look/feel of the Volvo. Zeekr X is Swedish design, in and out, but I think with the Chinese market first in mind.

When i first saw the pictures of the EX30 i was blown away. Typycal scandinavian Volvo style exteriour👍. But then the interiour design started to annoy me, they have gone down the Tesla route and made it way to minimalistic (in my opinion) with only 1 center screen 😥. But at least they still have let the stalks stay😂 So to me the Zeekr X is more appealing to me. It seems to have a very nice interiour, more luxurious from what i have seen in other videoes of the X. The X is also a bit bigger. I hope to be able to compare both here in Denmark one day, because they will both be in the list for our next EV. 😊

Hey Thom, super leuk video. could you compare the 2 cars with the Smart #1 based on the same platform but yet again with a different interior. I drove test the #1 Brabus today and it is way more confortable than a model 3 or Y (I drive tesla for 8 y now and planning to change as the after sales service of Tesla in Franc is terrible). The #1 has more kit than the ex30 and is really fun to drive too.

What's your thoughts on the Smart #1? The Brabus model is cheaper (in the UK) than the dual motor Volvo EX30. Slightly slower acceleration but possibly higher internal spec.

I think it's a fake relationship. Just because these cars share the same size and platform doesn't mean they are that similar. I remember driving Ford-owned cars with a Focus platform and they drove and felt very different. One was a Volvo, another a Ford and another a Mazda. The Volvo felt like a Volvo, the Mazda a Mazda, and the Ford a Ford.

Zeekr measures are more like C/XC40. So most likely future Volvo 40-series is also based same chassis and technology, but hopefully bigger battery.

I guess so too, though the range of the Zeekr is similar to the EX30 and surely not the extended range/twin 40-s.

Between EX30, Aceman and Zeekr X, which one is the one if consider fun to drive, speakers, space, considerate on day to day use and so on, Aceman is front wheel drive is that mean less go kart experience compare to Volvo and it has no frunk even is build on EV platform, EX30 glass roof don't have cover like the MINI but it has my favourite yellow color OEM-ly, Zeekr has functional interior like the flip up rear chairs and moveable center screen!

They aren't Volvos. They're a different brand. They may actually be a competitor to Volvo.

One of the reason I have ordered the EX30 for the simple reason that there is a Volvo distributor in the city. The Zeekr is probably more premium than the EX30 but good luck if you have any issue with the Zeekr until they have established real premises (I don’t believe many people will spend EUR 40-50k on a car without any backup plan). I believe that the Volvo has also more safety features than the Zeekr and if not, it has the legitimacy of its history. Regarding this video: I think you can do much better. More side by side comparison, more visuals vs. yourself.

I like the EX30. Unfortunately, for a dog owner like me Volvo is not a choice, it lacks the "Dog Mode" feature. Zeekr X has this same feature they named "Pet Mode". This is a "must have" for us with a dog, now we can go into a grocery shop, or even eat lunch like normal people in a restaurant along the road a hot and sunny summer day. The dog can now travel with us wherever we go, no need to leave the dog sitting alone at home from now! Thank you Tesla for inventing this feature many years ago! How long will it take until other car makers understand they have to adopt the idea? There are millions of dog and cat owners out there on the market!

Did I miss in your analysis that the rear interior of the Zeekr is also more spacious than the EX30?

The zeeker is 44xx mm long. The ex30 is 42xx mm long. it's a given that the Zeeker has more rear space.

I have sat in the back of the EX30 here in the UK, and it is not suitable for adults or even teenagers. See Thomas's two videos to compare that.

The zeekr has almost all that volvo misses; 2.screen+HUD, dog mode (backseat fold up) big trailer without the topspecs version. The design on the X is growing on me but still prefer the EX30. The X also have 22 kW destination charger.

A piece of info typically missing in comparing cars is the warranty ! Zeekr: 5 years, Volvo: only 2 years 😞 Do Volvo worries that much of the reliability of their cars that they don't offer more than 2 years of warranty?

That is because they have always done that and want you to pay more for extended warranty. Eventually, the established manufacturers may have to increase warranties to match Lorea and China.

because that volvo also made in china, and X has more features, air went for rear seat passengers, X is designed by swedish, taste also ... but I think overpriced here in EU compare to original price.
