Volvo LEVC TXE / VN5 steering wheel control fix (+ airbag removal)

I fix the steering wheel mounted control buttons on my LEVC TXE London taxi ..... which is the same as Volvo XC90, XC60, XC40, V50 and V60. Also the same for VN5. During this fix I show how to remove the airbag too.

Hi Fixitfallows good video can I ask a couple of questions are you one of Londons Finest the London Green badge driver and thoughts on the LEVC TXE pros and cons yours is low miles 67k are you on original ERAD did you get extra extended warranty do you use the range extender more so these days save mode or smart which home charger do u recormmend or do you just find a rapid charger when your out at work also I know xc90 is same but Volvo steering v60 will that model fit the Levc cab thanks in advance for reply I gave u a thumbs up be Lucky

Yes, I'm a green badge. I've only had a TXE for 2 months, having previously had fairways, TX2, TX4 and Vito's. So far, admittedly in a short time only, I can say that this is the best cab I've ever had, mainly due to comfort. This one is 6 years old with very low mileage. The battery is proving to consistently provide 50/53 miles, but this has been during April/May/June, so no heating has been used. This would impact the range notably. I use an Ohme home charger and it takes approximately 20/22kw of charge, so clearly some degradation has occurred since new, it remains to be seen at what rate this degradation will continue 🤷🏼‍♂️. As far as I am aware it's on the original ERAD. The previous owner claimed and recommended not to aggressively accelerate and also to avoid engaging drive whilst reversing before fully stopping. This makes sense to me in terms of protecting the ERAD, as EV electric motors have very high torque and these vehicles weigh nearly 3ton, so a huge strain can be put upon the gears within the ERAD. So this should be minimised where possible. Obviously there is still the issue of oil seals on these ERADs, which appears to be pot luck. I commute into town on SAVE, then switch to SMART (in reality SMART will only ever use the battery until depletion, I've not experienced it switching to the range extender before depletion), whilst staying in SMART, once the battery is drained, the range extender kicks in on regular intervals to provide the power for the motors. I have previously driven a courtesy cab for 7weeks solely on the range extender, plus have spoken with a driver who did this for 3 years!!

@@fixitfallows thanks for reply very good info 👍 if you do have anymore good tips on Txe or do a review on youtube of the cab it seams that the older type 68 and 19 plates are built better 😉 the 31kwh battery 🔋I think only 23kwh available usable Do you think having regen on will damage the Erad

@@patpong5873 yes so mine(18 reg) has the 31kwh battery too). Perhaps, as you say with it being looked down to 23kwh, then perhaps the degradation hasn't been as large as I suspected. As for the regen, the previous owner used the full regen all the time and had adapted his driving accordingly. It has seemed to affect the ERAD. Personally, I find the mid regen setting preferable for balance between economy and braking performance. It depends upon your style of driving and the conditions at any given time.
