We try to start up a pair of Volvo Penta D4 260 engines which have not been used for over 5 years. Will they start ?

My boat has the D4-210 engine - it's really powerful and reassuring. Volvo tell me to push these engines hard from time to time, it does them a power of good.

I bought a 1966 D50 A engine out of a Combine harvester that had been stood for at least 20 years, it fired first half crank over. I have since fitted it into a tractor.

What you have to change after 5 years stop? Surely belt oil filters then?

I would check the main turbine bearing for any play...

@@CFC_44Thanks for replying. What about maintenance, are they expensive to maintain? Everybody raves about them. I guess they are better than the petrol ones.

@@mchaves7663 yea all the experts i have spoken to rave about them, we've just had some bad luck. They are diesel and should last a lifetime if they looked after. We picked up a 10m searay a year ago, the guy said the engines only needed a few bits, anyway after 26kEuro fixing them, one blew.. So we are currently looking for another engine. The parts in these engines are very expensive! We also got ripped off for labour.. Ahh bad times!

I can not find a rebuild kit for a AG131D motor this one I have is locked up

I have tried putting PB blaster in the cylinder heads along with transmission fluid nothing will allow the motor to break loose
