What was the size of the third shim? And is this procedure the same on a SX outdrive. Mine clunks into gear and your video is the only one I can find for shift linkage adjustment

@bobbymckay2890 all the shims are the same size.

Do you happen to know the part number for the seal on the shifter actuator ?

Thanks for the video. I cannot find the bracket 3850057. Good to see where the gold bracket is supposed to be. My DP-SM is shifting HARD and that whole assembly is loose and corroded. It's a 96 boat afterall haha!

Hi. I remember in one of your very good videos that you talked about , if there is a loudt "klank" sound in gear shift from neutral to forward or to reverse. also if it the stick is harder then normal to place in neutral...there was something to adjust?...what was this.? :) This was a problem on the previous DP-E290 drive but one year the problem was gone. Now i have a factory new DP-E290 drive on wich a volvo penta shop have mounted, and this problem are back. Can you please tell me what to do in this case? Thank in advance. Jan

The shift actuator may be the issue, but if the drive is new I doubt it is that. It may be the shift cable itself is worn out.

Great video! Do you know how many extra shims are spec'd for a SX-A drive?
@tedsmarinerepair8956 Жыл бұрын
For all Sx-A or DPS-A and later units, There is no bolt or shims and therefore no adjustment for the shift actuator

@@tedsmarinerepair8956 Thanks for the info! I'm looking for any recommendations with a the SX-A drive shifting with a fairly noticeable "bang" in going from neutral to either forward or reverse. I only use the Volvo-Penta 75W-90 Synthetic that I change every other year to the recommended level. The engine idles at 600 rpm in neutral, has 300 hours on it and I switched from a 3 blade S.S. prop to a 4 blade Aluminium prop that is 22lbs lighter, but still have the loud shifting. On my older 2003 SX drive, I would definitely here a clunk when shifting, but no where near as loud.

None, all the shift actuators are fixed on SX-A or DPS-A units there is no bolt to shim.

@@tedsmarinerepair8956 Thanks for the quick response! Any other things you think I should look into that may help with the loud shifting?

What oil level do you recommend on the dipstick?
@tedsmarinerepair8956 Жыл бұрын
half way up the dipstick is the proper level. Filling it up until it's level with the bottom of the vent plug hole is also the correct level.

I have a DPG drive run off of a cv shaft. When put in forward it engages immediately, when put in reverse it spins in neutral for 10 seconds before engaging in reverse. Could this have something to do with this shift actuator in this video? The actual electrical actuator that is moving the cable mechanically is fully moving in both directions.

Im guessing this could be the clutch inside the upper part of the drive. The clutch will start slipping in reverse first then it will not engage the gear at all

Dp-E per the book says to add 3 additional. Just wondering why only 1 extra shim?
@tedsmarinerepair8956 Жыл бұрын
There was no tag on the drive and after removing the old shift mechanism I found out the old shift mechanism was a 290 dp series, since I used the original gears and clutch I went with the 1 shim that 290's originally called for. It's also only 0.020" different. Time will tell when it's splashed.

@@tedsmarinerepair8956 ok so its safe to say since my DP-E was tagged, to put 3 additional. Hopefully! Fingers crossed
