Other than that, oil pump to injectors, complete brake and suspension refurb, & changed from that ugly peanut butter colored interior to the charcoal and sag 5 spokes. Black headliner & the only crome is the emblem on the grill. Oh yeah I have a 4x4x8 animal cage on top. I call it, Midnight Safari. I like the S60R so much brought it twice! 04 & later an 06. 06 got the 6 speed auto & slightly different maping. 06 also did not restrict full torque in 1st or 2nd like the original did. You might want to get it remaped at the dealer ? I think it's a Polestar program. You might already have it if it's holding rpm during shifting ? Check the suspension. My two never dipped or squat under braking or power ? It only dipped under braking when the electronic Monroe struts needed replacing. Oh! I did upgrade the front antisway bar that really leveled out the left right transitions! I believe it's a blue iPD product ? I installed 18" Pirelli P Zero on OEM rims. Sticks like glue. Reduce pushing in corners noticed. I'm sure you know, on the power in turns with front bias chassis. Such a spirited car. Very few can deliver what these S60R brings..even way back from 04 !! The perfect balance of Dr Jekyll Mr Hyde ! Lol. No other car maker can claim that personality.

I still think they look great and sound incredible; and would make a fantastic daily driver slightly modded. Instead I got an RSX Type-S and a second 124 Spider Abarth which I’ll be doing a K24 swap/turbo. Great to see some more S60R content as there isn’t much out there! 👌

Yeah my buddy bought one and didn’t get to drive it more than 50 miles in the year he owned it. He bought a clean low mileage R with an electrical gremlin and figured “how hard could it be to fix?” Turns out the answer is “impossibly hard”, even for the dealership. They gave it back to him a few times claiming it was fixed after replacing all kinds of modules and harnesses (his total repair bill was $6k), but the electrical system would freak out a few miles down the road every time. The dealership eventually gave up and told him he’d have to take it somewhere else. He gave up and sold it for half of what he paid. Ended up losing over $15k altogether. That was 8-10 years ago. He’s good now! Has a new F150 Plat for work and he just bought a ‘15 Mustang GT P-PP in mint condition.

Love this review. I have a built 1998 S70 T5 manual. First car I ever drove was 2006 V70R. The wagon version of this car. In my opinion the earlier FWD Volvos handle slightly better than the AWD ones. They feature passive 4 wheel steering using what's called the delta link rear suspension. Which when you really throw it into corners definitely can be felt. Although it can be a struggle to put power down in the FWD cars in the bends.

The Saab 9-5 Aero is very underrated much like all performance Volvo cars. The Saab used 2 really good transmissions. FWD for the 1st gen 9-5s. Aisin AF33 5 Speed Automatic and Saab designed F35 5 Speed Manual (We don't talk about the GM 50-42LE tranny. Such garbage.). Cool thing is those transmissions can handle a good amount of power, especially built units. 4 door sedan or 5 door wagon. In the top trim, you get a 2.3 Turbocharged 4 cylinder DOHC engine with VVT and all other goodies. Stock turbo is a Mitsubishi TD04 and that turbo can handle more power before a bigger one is needed. Bone stock, a B235R makes 250hp out of the box and you can get up to 30+ mpg just cruising. Their are a few built Saabs roaming the country. I'd say I would love to see David review a 9-3 Aero or 9-5 Aero (Aero X models too). Only reason I know about Saabs is because I had one years ago. To this day, I still regret selling it. Best car I've ever drove. Trust me, Saabs are not built like Toyotas or Hondas. They're built kinda like Mercedes or BMW. They can be reliable or they can be unreliable af. If one is reliable, keep doing frequent fluid changes and you'll be set on having a happy engine and happy car.

Great review. I own two of these. V70R (Auto) as a daily and a S60R (M66) as a show/weekend fun car. Your review was honest and well rounded. They are such a a fun car and nobody give them the respect until they see it pull away on them and then they understand. They can be a pain sometime but as long as you stay on top of maintenance they are a great car to own.

I loved how it sounded, and with the way I had setup the handling didn't feel lazy at all. I didn't know it when I bought it, but my car already had its mufflers taken off, so that Yamaha V8 has some bark and bite. Just wish the last owner didn't replace the factory cold air intake with an off the shelf warm air ram intake... It doesn't have the raw performance of a true sports car, but it handily passes on the highway and sounds like a thundering Norse god.

Wait.. David AND Demuro release an S60R video less than a month apart??? Hmmm... David, the reason people don't talk about these as much as they probably should in mainstream car culture is that they're expensive to work on and at their age, they have a lot of things most likely needing to be fixed and working on these is not easy at all. They did a killer job of engineering these to run 100k miles before you even have to think about them but once you do, godspeed. The good thing is that the drive train in basically all the older volvos is nearly bulletproof and can easily get you from point A to B on the daily even with lots of problems. We've had 5 volvos and still have my wife's old 99 S70 T5 and we're about to basically spend as much, probably more, than what the car is actually worth on all new suspension, getting the AC running again, new power steering pump, timing belt, tires, etc but its worth it to me for a fun and reliable ride.

I've always wanted a volvo C70. I think it is a very good looking car. has it been reliable? if I buy one what should look out for?
@it_is_just_a_volvo2 жыл бұрын
@@ubiased23 Normal T5 stuff mostly. Breather box, maintenance history, rear side windows will most likely leak under heavy water (high pressure cleaner), door locks can sometimes drain the battery. But these cars have been so reliable through the years without maintenance that it's hard to find a really good one. Cheap ones probably aren't reliable because of years of neglect.

@@it_is_just_a_volvo good to know. I prefer the 5 speed manual of I buy one. They have really grown on me because of the 1997 movie the saint. I've heard they have a good sound system as well. Is that true? Also what year do you recommend
@it_is_just_a_volvo2 жыл бұрын
@@ubiased23 I have the 5 speed manual (M56HK), 3rd gear ends at 180km/h redline. Very long gearing and amazing with 500nm of torque to the wheels. The sound system is very good (I have the Dolby surround sound with dashboard Subwoofer). Try to get engine management with Bosch M4.4, less sensors, rawer version then the ME7 engine management (eventhough it drives more smooth) and single mass flywheel. 👍 But both engines are great ofc.

Fun fact: The Haldex (FWD bias AWD system) was developed by the Swedes. However, Volvo only switched to this from the older viscous system in 2003. Audi were the first to use it from 1998 in their smaller models. I own a 2008 Audi S3 & these came out from 2006. A very nice thing to have. With this in mind. I salute you S60R :) One thing I'd like to ask. I don't really get redlining to fuel cut? I prefer to flat change before redline. Just me. The S3 is super easy to do if you are keen. How is this Volvo gearbox for this style of gear change?

In the last Volvo video, the guy didn't have a big turbo. That's why it feels completely different. That S60R is equipped with a K24 turbo. Shit spools quick as hell. The engine in both cars are very similar. In fact, the only difference is rigidity and the fact that the old one is 2.4 and the new one is 2.5 and VVT was thrown in. I'd say the 6 speed makes it feel quick as well.
