Aaah, nostalgia. Had such a car for 7 years. The oil level sensor was always broken, and it leaked oil, so in order not to dry run the engine, I had to regularly check oil and refill. It also leaked coolant. Any way I loved it. Comfortable, and not overly hard to fix stuff on. You had control, you could fix stuff. In my new third generation XC70 I cannot even see the engine. Everything is enclosed. It doesn't even have an oil stick. Everything relies on electronic sensors, and when those sensors fails some day, I'm probably gonna fry the engine.

@nov2263 Жыл бұрын
You can easily check the oil level with the ignition on in the dashboard menu :)
@heyyo162
@heyyo162 Жыл бұрын
@@nov2263 The point is, that data relies on a sensor inside the engine. if/when that sensor get broken, I will have no way of telling when to refill the oil.
@nov2263
@nov2263 Жыл бұрын
@@heyyo162 If it gets broken It will tell you. And you should never have to fill up engine oil between oil changes. I know D3/D4 (FWD) leaks or burns oil, not all but It's common, but It's not normal.

Just bought a '98 S70 2,5T in almost mint condition with 180k miles, it is very stable and very fast. With electric glass sunroof, electric seat, AC, automatic with S/E/W gearbox mode, the leather seats have almost no cracks, just the driver seat have some but not nearly as much as you'd think. Back seat is as new. There's only one spot of very little rust which I'll fix.

I was going to go further but I wanted to hustle and I got discouraged by the ‘speed detected by radar’ sign so I turned around. Haha, my interior is far from mint. It doesn’t look like it in the video but there’s tears in the upholstery, stuff cracked, loose, missing all over the place. It drives amazingly but that’s all I care about.

I'm the owner of a 1997 Volvo 960 with 92k original miles. After spending a bunch of money to catch up on deferred maintenance that car is running like new. It will easily cruise at 80+ mph on the highway in quiet comfort. You have a fabulous S70. What year is that beast and how many miles does it have!
@clover7359

in terms of reliability, 960 is years ahead of the s70. i mean, the s70 will get you to your destination, but the 960 will also be showing you your speed all of the time, for example.

everybody talks about how this car is nice and shit.. i have a 98’ v70 p80 with diesel engine (d5252t) and 450 000km on the tacho. it drives so smooth and great (i mean engine) but the interior quality is piece of shit, it rattles, leather is tattered, speakers are boken.. my dad have a e39 530d with the same mileage as i have in my volvo and the bmw is something different.. but i still love volvo so much, just the interior quality sucks

@clover7359
@clover7359 Жыл бұрын
They are mechanically bulletproof but the electronics are the weakness of the P80 chassis Volvos. If you find one that has been well maintained it will serve you well but steer clear of anything that looks like it was neglected. The turbos have that extra complexity so I prefer the NA versions, but as long as the previous owner changed the oil on time and gave the oil plenty of time to warm up and cool down before getting into boost and shutting down, it should be fine.
